The Las Vegas Valley will be sunny and somewhat breezy today. However, stronger winds are expected around the Lake Mead area, making it hazardous to be out on a boat, according to the National Weather Service.
The weather service has issued a lake wind advisory from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. today for the Lake Mead Recreation area and the Colorado River Valley. Lake Havasu, Topock, Needles, Laughlin, Bullhead City and Hoover Dam are included in the advisory area.
The advisory says that winds will be coming from the north at 20 to 30 mph, with gusts higher than 35 mph. The winds will create very choppy waters and generate large waves that could capsize or swamp small boats.
The weather service said operators of small craft are urged to postpone their outings until the winds subside. If boaters do venture out, they should avoid the open water and stay close to shore in in protective coves, the weather service said.
