That does rank up there with one of the toughest things we've gone though so far, After the six month of we were never going to get another dog the girls found a springer spaniel puppy, then after another year we looked at lab puppies which is what our first one was. Never go look!! it is over after you get the girls and wife loaded up in the unit to go look at puppies.
I should start naming them after things I cannot purchase any more like Wet Sounds and Surf Board
We went through hell in late 2008 to Oct of 2009. We first lost our 10 year Aussie Shepard mix to ACL injuries. She had underwent back surgery when younger an vet indicated that at her age bouncing back would be hard. So unfortunately we put her down. My favorite Chocolate Lab over the course of 2008 lost one eye to glaucoma and in the Spring of 2009 she lost her other eye. We isolated her in our two story house and when she was led into the yard with a leash and let off she couln't navigate once she lost her scent trail. That and slamming into everything kind of forced the issue and at 8 years old dog #2 was put down. That left us with two chocolate labs and a couple of miniture dachshunds. The 7 year old mid sized lab in the course of 2 days lost her spleen. It was a rough period. We were greatfull that we still had one Lab and the two hotdogs and where going to wait until spring to get another lab. One night I came across a women who purchased a lab litter from a breeder who specialized in hunting labs and somehow the wrong father got lucky and at 6 weeks all the puppies were taken on by a person who did a lot of lab rescues. The night after I saw the add we went to see the 8 week old pups because she had a chocolate and black lab pup left. Once I saw the chocolate lab we decided to buy here if our three remaining dogs would get along. Since it was an hour ride we brought our Lab and hot dogs with us and let them socialize with the pup. Needless to say we bought the chocolate lab and have no regrets. We cannot wait for our goofball to go swimming this summer. We are glad we decided to get her last fall so that she has been acclimated to car rides and once the ice pack goes away I will take her on the boat.
Gotta head out of town on biz for a week on Monday, then home for the weekend, then back out for 3 more days
