Yes,but a small orbital buffer is easier to use on a boat because of it's weight.On a boat your mostly polishing vertical so you bear the weight of the polisher.

I have a Makita buffer that I use. Big old heavy thing but I used the Porter Cable one that my brother bought from Autogeek or whatever that site is and I will take that heavy old sucker any day over that flimsy Porter Cable!
