Yes it is..... I look at it like this. A/B amps are for your high performance systems but require juice to push them. Class D or G/H amps are performance amps, but sacrifice the ability to reach the levels of the A/B amps to save on it's power consumption.

You select the amp based on what you want to achieve, right?

What levels are Class-D and G/H not able to reach? Keep in mind that we are talking power supply side of the amp, not the speaker supply side of the amp. With today's technology, there is no audible difference on the output side between A/B or D and G/H.

Getting every Watt you can out of an amplifier for every battery amp that is consumed, seems to be very hi-performance to me. A 25% difference in efficiency may equal an additional 2 hours of play time from a battery bank. That's substantial for a boater that spends a lot of time playing while anchored.
