He has gas heat but electric fan and controls, like me, so no heat.
about 10 years ago the power went off once when we were living in Billings, it was wintertime also and we had gas heat with the electric blower also. Anyway we were settling in for the night with blankets when my youngest daughter who was 2 at the time went over to wall switch on the gas fire place. I told her it would not work either because it needed electricity to turn it on but then as now she did not listen to me and switched it on anyway and the dam thing fired up No blower but the fire lit up. so we had heat for the night in the front room. Anyway not sure how they work but apparently there is some sort of capacitor in gas fireplace switchgear because ever since then I've tried them when the power goes out and they will all light if the pilot light is lit. Our last house had three of them in it

Powers back but I bet it will be short lived. Went outside to clear the 1" of ice off the satellite dish and heard 4 or 5 trees out back snap. Cleared off the hot tub and trampoline that had 6 inches of snow with a 2" layer of ice on top. The next 12 hours should be interesting.
