how come my steering cable in my stern-drive lasted 20 years and inboards seem to require replacement at 4 or 5 years? Mine feels fine.

Power Steering, mine feels fine also but it just amazes me how many people on here have changed their cables out on 3-4 yo boats

More exposure to water in the bilge typically.

Also one person here believes there is a buildup of electrical charge that causes faster corrosion.
