      rear gear x trans gear ratio = engine RPM. HP and Torque peak in a certain RPM range. If the gearing puts the engine out of the optimal range, then the engine will not be making the best power.

            I believe you and will not post to dispute it. I do think my current truck pulls stronger than my last chevy and ford with 3.55 rears, but cannot prove it.

                    Did yur last trucks not have the high-altitude program

                    IMO, a chevy small block with a 4-speed auto need the 3.73 at least for towing.
