IMO, A single 12", nicely powered, in a ported enclosure will be far better then a pair of 10's in towers.
This gives you the flexibility to put the sub just about anywhere in the room you wants, and place the tower in front of the seating area.
Is this setup also going to be used for video/TV? If so, go ahead and plane ahead and get a surround front-end that will drive your towers as well as the rear speakers.
For the towers, i'm thinking an 8" mid-bass and 6.5" component set for each one
Yeah, basically a giant bookshelf system if it were.
I think I have decided to do the 12 for sure. It will be used not really as a home theater system now... but maybe in the future.
I like the idea of the 8" midbass.
The problem I am having is figuring out how to power it all, cheaply and with the least amount of parts. This is what I was planning to use http://www.pyleaudio.com/itemdetail....model=P1501ATU
but im not sure... thats why Im asking you.

So it will home stereo and maybe some gaming, but not full surround sound.
That Pyle unit is a 4chnl amp with a sub RCA output. This is a good start as it will power the towers and then allow for with sub amp to be added in, or you could even go with a self-powered sub setup, and just run the RCA cable to the sub.

Yeah, Im going for more of loudness.
My original idea was to just use a 12v battery with a charger and run everything like I would in a car/boat. But I dont like the idea of having a battery, charger and amp. I found that Pyle unit and liked the idea that it has a radio tuner, usb, 3.5mm jack etc. After looking into it I had the same fear which was powering the sub.
Then my other idea was to use a home stereo receiver.
Which do you see being easiest/cheapest?

Although a battery and a power supply powering 12V automotive equipment works just fine, as that's exactly what I have for my demo booth, it's just not ideal for a home setup. If you did this, go with a sealed battery like an AGM. Down side is, these batteries are not cheap, plus the cost of a suitable power supply.
I think your best bet would be to go with 110V type home equipment for the receivers/amps and automotive subs and speakers if you wanted.

self-powered, all it needs is a 110 outlet ans a set of RCAs from the front-end.

Looks like I might be going back to upgrading my car this summer..
Well, that was only one example I knew off hand that my distributor carries. There are others out there. Remember, that's a sub, amp and enclosure in one.

If I could find something cheap that converts 110v to 12...
One capable of supplying the amps needed to power a sub amp will not be cheap.
A 45A power supply from kinetic is about $200, I use a 90A on my demo board, but I have 4 amps, 2 head-units, EQ, LEDS, etc
