    I think your right but just doesn't feel right, I'm also not sure that's company would allow me to accept it. Not sure what's involved in a gear ratio change but that is the big ticket item unless there are more leaf springs to make up the difference in payload capacity.

            With in the same class of vehicle, like a .5 ton, a gear change is nothing more then a ring and pinion gear set swap. It can be done in a couple hours. Springs would up the pay load (whats carried in the bed) but may not necessarily need to be changed to up the tow rating, as long as the toe hitch stayed the same. Putting on a buzz and talking out loud If its a 4WD, you have to change the front gear set too

                        It is a 4wd. I will go see what else the Max tow package adds but I believe it is just tow mirrors which I was going to swap out anyway. I had to get the Max tow to get the payload up to 2000# but I believe the gear ratio is what gets it there.
