I started doing it after Phil made a comment in here about how it would be possible to develop a leak in the fuel lines as your boat is running, so that it was OK on start, but then developed an explosive mixture after running the engine for a while. While the air intake of the running engine might bring in enough fresh air to prevent an explosive vapor content, if you run the blower it will draw air from the bottom of the bilge when the gas fumes would concentrate. Easy thing for a little extra peace of mind, and they are pretty cheap to replace if/when it fails due to constant use.
