Is all 15W-40 oil the same?
The only 15W-40 oil I can find says it's for heavy duty diesel engines. If I'm not running my motor is sub 40 degree weather, does it even matter what the winter viscosity is?
My LS3 manual calls for 15W-40. Oil cap says 5W-30.

5W-30 is what that engine would run if it was in a GM car/truck. The diesel oil will have heigher levels of detergents in it as compared to gas engine oil.Originally posted by Fiveflat View PostIs all 15W-40 oil the same?

So maybe the higher levels of detergents is why Indmar specifies it? Since marine engines are designed to run at or close to WOT more often than it would in a car/truck right?Waiting for another good one!Comment
