Got new tires today for my car. When they were fitting the new rubber on the wheels, they came to me and said, "Sir, do you know that you have a bent rim?" I checked, and it was an obvious issue on the inside edge. So, a new set of rims is on order now.
The strange thing - neither my wife nor I remember any time that we have hit anything hard (curb, rock, etc.) except for about 4 years ago when my wife hit a big rock that was in the middle of the freeway. When that happened, it blew one tire and bent the rim. All I can figure is that it actually bent a second rim, but didn't blow that tire, and the shop never checked it. It had been an almost-new tire back then, so I haven't had them off the rims since then. Lucky that I never had a problem arise since then, like a blowout at highway speed.
The only thing that takes some of the sting out, is that today they were offering $100 off a set of tires and/or rims. So at least I got $200 off.
