SURELY tige and boatmate collaborated on their designs, what a mistake it would be to mess up tongue weight right? That’s such a fundamental spec, if they messed that up what else did they mess up?

I won't give Boatmate any benefit of the doubt. I had several warranty claims on my trailer. I had none on the boat.

I think the real issue is, at least most likely to me, they want people to be able to tow these boats with vehicles that aren’t designed to tow them, because a lot of people probably aren’t buying a boat, if they have to buy a 3/4 or 1 ton truck, too.

Making them hitch light makes them seem less heavy on the back of a vehicle. It’s dangerous as hell to have too little weight on the hitch, and can easily put you in a bad spot, real quick.

I leave 300# of lead in my bow, and spread the rest over the trailer axles. I know what my truck looks and feels like when a trailer is properly weighted on the back. If you’re feeling the weight transfer all the way off the ball, in any situation, it’s too nose light, for sure..

I've always thought this is the best example of how important proper tongue weight is. I think it's been posted before. Get your weights right before you tow again. Do not count on your truck to manage the load, especially in an emergency situation.

That video illustrates it perfectly, and I’ve had a couple of trailers push me on a scary *** ride.. if you tow on hills and in corners, it multiplies that, too.

That mustang GT clearly isn't suited for hauling that log splitter

So I can’t be the only z3/ R23 with this problem? Seems there’s a few here that think they do but this boat/ trailer combo has been around for a while right?

My Z1 has a tongue weight around 300 also, but I think as mentioned before, there is a lot of down-force generated at highway speed on that front window. That likely increases the tongue weight. So unless you are experiencing oscillations, it should be fine. Mine tows like a dream. Worst case, just take your front tires off :P I'm full of helpful hints.

I towed for years with an Avalanche. Now a 2500 Duramax. Both pull perfectly.

So I put 200lbs of bags on the bow. Problem solved. Tows much better but does suck moving them around.

It seemed pretty light to me at first so figured I would check. I'm not worried on short trips but I may be putting my "lead" bags up front when traveling longer distances. I assume all R23's are similar? With that and the VERY low rear clearance of the trailer, I just don't think Boatmate did their engineering diligence.
Did you weigh the boat n trailer to get the 6500?

So that was 3100 each axle plus 300 of tongue weight? Fuel full, no lead, swimplatform on? Normal gear for day at the lake?

I’m looking at buying a new tow vehicle and an digging into towing capacity’s. My initial look is that no half tons are rated for the R23 with 900lbs of lead. Even with lead split between 300 in bow and 600in truck. Too much weight on truck axle. There are several options that meet GCWR, but none for rear axle that I can find on internet
