    New trailer tires

I'm looking to replace the tires on my R20 single axel Boatmate trailer. They seem to wear most around the shoulder of the tire, probably because being a single axel they get a lot of horizontal swiveling action. The trailer was equipped with some "Trail America" brand. Any recommendations on a quality tire for this? Can I just go to any tire shop and have them replaced? Thanks in advance.

WOW- you must be putting some miles on that trailer being a 2013!! Hopefully the boat is getting as much use. I would check with a tire shop, but be sure the tires have a high enough weight rating to properly carry the load. I would call around as some tire shops don't deal with trailers as much as others.

Yeah we've put on probably 2,000 miles in two years, a little more than I was expecting. A few trips up north and one waaay up north add up. Otherwise our home lakes are only 5-10 miles away.

BC rider I did a little search and found your thread, I've heard good things about Maxmiler as well. Thanks. BC looks amazing!

They should last a lot longer than that would recommend running more air pressure / checking pressure more often.

They would probably last another season but the dealer put a hole in one during winterization last fall so I figure I might as well switch them now. Thanks Jbake I'll keep a keener eye on the psi.

If the dealer put a hole in them, they should pay for a new one!

Strange, i've ran Carlisle on a few trailers now (not just boat trailers) and have never had any issues. Goodyears and Maxxis on the other hand, i've had plenty of problems.

Definitely stay away from Goodyear trailer tires. I work in the industry and they tend to cause lots of problems. I would look at increasing your ply to as high as available.

I agree on this. Most tire problems are from people underinflating for the load. Most of us are pretty close to the max load for the tires so we should be close to or at the max cold psi. On load class C that's probably around 50 psi and class D-E it's probably closer to 65 psi. I have Kumho 875 tires which are load class D and 65PSI. I ordered them from Tirerack and had them mounted here and added TPMS too.

How did you/what did your use to add TPMS to a trailer? I never gave this any thought - it is a FANTASTIC idea!

I had my local tire shop put these in when I had the new tires mounted:

Agree on inflation. I run my trailer tires at their rated cold max pressure. And I only put about five miles per year on my trailer!

Seriously, or are you just kidding? I would have been completely turned off by the horribly written brochure and assumed the product was just as bad. Do they work?
