Replacement Tires and spare matching Wheel

I have a DHM trailer with Carlisle Ultra Sport ST/R Size ST235/60R14C.
It looks from the trailer data plate that the rims are 14x6.5.

I am looking for suggestions on trailer tires - I can go with a direct replacement or switch to Goodyear Marathon, but I don't think the Marathon is available in this size.

I talked to two large tire dealers here and they both looked at me like I was crazy when I told them I was looking for a trailer tire in this size. Les Schwab offered me a passenger tire. Discount is calling Carlisle tomorrow.

I would like to stick with this tire size, so that I can get a 5th wheel and keep one of the old tires as a spare.


So, any suggestions on where to get tires and a matching wheel????

Make sure you check the date codes. I had some of these on my 2008 that were made in 2006. Had to replace them and the same issue with Carlisle - they wanted to send me two year old tires.

There is good and bad reviews on both Goodyear and Carlisle, keep them properly inflated and out of the sun and either one should be good. I'll be replacing mine next year.

Looks like the size of those tires is the max width for that wheel. you should be able to go down to a 225/60r14 or 215 on that wheel.

Not sure if they make your size... but I have been running Maxxis trailer tires on my Boat trailer and on my Airstream travel trailer. I have been using Maxxis for a couple of years, and so far I am pleased with the brand. I have a buddy with a shop that works on commercial trailers and some recreational trailers, and all he uses are the Maxxis tires.

Are the tires 'ST'? I was told not to put anything on mine that weren't 'special trailer' when I replaced mine last year.

I repacked the wheel bearings today. The bearings were in excellent shape, but the grease looked muddy gray. There was no grease leaking out the seals. They had never been done before - the trailer date is 10/07. The job is not hard, but it took most of the day.
Removing the old grease seals was a pain. I even bought a slide hammer (harbor freight), but that didn't do the trick. I finally figured out how to cut them carefully in the radial direction with a chisel and that made them easy to pry out.

I talked to a very knowledgeable trailer expert at Six Roblees where I bought the replacement seals. I asked what he thought of oil bath hubs. His opinion was that oil bath is excellent if the trailer gets used regularly. If oil bath hubs sit for a long period, the oil runs off part of the bearing and it gets exposed to humidity above the oil level which leads to corrosion.

Just returned from a nice road trip to central Wa. We drove over 400 miles. Temperatures were over 100f forost of the trip. I did try to keep at 65mph. The TPMS with temp sensing os a huge piece of mind. It worked flawlessly.
