Help.............I am heading to a boat show on the weekend hopefully to leave with a new Tige. I water ski and my boyfriend wakeboards. We need a new boat the one we have now is great for me to waterski but not so much for wake boarding. I have read that the 20v is the only boat approved for waterskiing...............anyone water ski behind the 22V. I wont have a chance to test drive one(I know I am crazey) but the lakes are frozen around here right now and I am hoping to get a good deal at the boat show.

Oops I meant to say that the 20v should be the best of both worlds. I don't like direct drives for wakeboarding and I think that the 20V should have decent wakes with taps used correctly for skiing.Comment

A buddy of mine has the 22v and its great for skiing as long as you don't have water in the ballast and its in slalom postion. And if you want to have a boat for wakeboarding too you should get the 22v.Comment

The difference in cost of a 20v and a 22v is probably not much. Ask yourself how much room you have to store a boat. If thats not a problem I too would go with the 22v.Comment

Like someone else said if you are looking for a slalom wake it is easier to use a 21i or 22i cause they are more interchangeable between slalom and wakeboard. And, my buddies 22v doesn't have as much room to move around in as my 21i (both are 2003) and i like the 21i more than the 22i cause you have a full bench in the back and it is removable and flips so you can look the other direction. but there really isn't much difference in the lengths of the 21 and 22 boats, 21 = 21feet 4 inches / 22 = 21feet 8inches and both have a width of 108 inches
the one thing you may want to consider is that the 22i is the only one that holds 47 gallons of gas the 21i holds 36 and the 20v and 22v hold 38Comment

I would definitely look at the 21 IR and 22 IR if you are using the boat a lot for skiing as well as wakeboarding. The wake will be better for skiing and will handle much better. It can produce a great wake for wakeboarding too...you just have to weight it down more than the 20V or 22V. I would highly recommend test driving everything first.Comment

What do you mean when you say that the 20V is "approved for skiing"? Did the AWSA approve it? I know the Switch I is approved for the slalom course, but didn't think any V-drive was approved, except maybe the Mastercraft 205V. There is not one V-drive out there that will be better for skiing than a direct drive. Tige' build all of their boats
(with the exceotion of the switch I) for wakeboarding first, skiing second. This is due to the increased weight over other manufacturers. The 21i and the 22i will give you more than enough slalom capabilities and terrific wakeboarding wakes. I have taken my 22i through the course before and have run 22-28' off with it no problem. The wake is almost as clean as a Prostar 190 or CC Ski Nautique at 34-36 mph, just a bit firmer and wider. The TAPS system is not going to alot for you at a slalom skiing speed unless you ski under 28 mph. Whether its set at 1 or 5 when you are going 34 mph, the difference in wake is not hardly noticable.Comment

I stand corrected. The 20V is approved by the AWSA! I guess that just happened for '04. I still would go with the 21i or 22i though if you are going to do serious slalom.Comment

Hi Michelle -- I say buy the 22V -- it is awesome for both waterskiing and wakeboarding. I like the 20V and the 22V way better than the 22i -- don't forget that in the 22i you can't have anyone sitting on the back bench seats when you're using the center-mounted ski pylon or your friends will get hit with the rope !! That is a BIG, BIG advantage for the 20V and 22V.
If you are tight on storage space, then go with the 20V. Plus, the look of the 20V or 22V is just awesome with the interior wide open.Comment

just to let you know ezdz....the 22i doesnt even have a ski pylon.tige built the boat just for wakeboarding..You would have to ski off the tower. The 21i Is a great boat for both worlds.joeComment
