    Prop on the Mind

Well my prop is getting a bit chewed up and would like to get a new one. I have a 13.5x16 right now. Gets out of the water fine with ballast and people. Could use a bit more zip but dont really want to hurt fuel economy. I get an easy 9 hours to a tank now and dont want any less. I am not sure what brand is on there but it is a 4 blade if that matters.

Not sure what to do, this is like picking tires for my quad the first time. Just want to get the right one the first time.

If it came with your boat it's probably an Acme #537 13.5x16. That prop wasn't available until 2003. I put one on our boat at the beginning of this season and what a difference. Since your boat is larger give Acme a call and see what they recommend.

If you have an Acme 537 now try an Acme 857 which is 13.25x15.5 for a faster pick up.

Pulling into our dock there is a bit of gravel that gets stirred up. Our lake is very low this year. We have since found deeper water on our lot to dock the boat. I also found a new shallow spot on the lake last weekend. That caught me by surprise. I have travelled this spot all summer and was even wakeboarding and surfing through this spot (turning around with surfer as it was shallow and no wake). However when it did happen we had the boat right full with people and 2400#'s water. Now what used to read 2.5 feet to 3 feet was only 1.5. Even at 1.5 though I thought I had some clearance.

The prop is not bad, just the edges are all burred. It really does not cause any vibration yet. With our lake so low, it would be nice to have a spare for sure incase chit really hits the fan.

My 04 22V came with the 537 and it did a very good job until I added 2000 of ballasts. Looking for a better hole shot I bought the 857 thinking that would be the ticket. I'm not saying the 857 won't work for others but for my boat/setup it didn't get the job done, with only .060 cup I got more slip than hole shot. I talked with ACME and they recommended the 1464 (13.5x14.25 .105 cup) so I had my 857 re-pitchced and re-cuped to the 1464 specs. Although my 857 has a 13.25 diameter vs. the 13.5 of the 1464, AMCE said the 1/4 inch difference wouldn't be an issue. The swap cost a few mph compared to the 537, but I get on plane much faster now even with full ballast and people. We all have different setups and needs so before you pull out your wallet see what the guys at ACME recommend, very nice folks.

                ACME

Call Bill Weeks at ACME. He'll get you exactly what you need.

I'm pleased as can be with my ACME 911. Works great at 5000' elevation with a full load of kids & ballast.

If yours originally had the 537, the most common upgrade is the 1235. It will improve the hole-shot, but will not kill the top end or cause the engine to run too high on the rpm's when cruising.

My 13.5" prop is hitting the trailer (Dorsey). Will the 14.5 hang lower or is that a different measurement?

Well, if the 13.5" 537 is hitting the trailer's prop guard, then the 14.5 1237 will also. I'd suggest you look into why the factory prop is hitting the trailer!!! Sounds like the trailer was not setup correctly
