Hi everyone, My name is Allen. I am a long time lurker, first time poster. This is a great forum, and lot of good information. I own a 99 21v riders. I am the original owner. I decided this amusing little story about the delivery of my new boat would be a good way to pop my post cherry.
It was sometime in Nov. of 1998 that I took delivery of my new Tige. The dealer met me at the lake to do a water delivery. The weather was crap, it was windy, rainy and cold. As I recall, the dealer actually wanted to reschedule but I didn't care, I just wanted my new boat.
So we meet at the lake and launch the boat (imagine theme from gilligan's island playing in the background). We get out a good distance in the water and everything seems to be fine. For whatever reason I decide to open the port side rear hatch and low and behold the compartment is filled with about 10" of piping hot water (about to the level of where the battery opening is) . I turned to the dealer and said "I didn't know this thing had a hot tub?!" . The dealer looked like a deer in headlights and became instantly pale. He whipped the boat around and we headed back for the dock at full throttle. We made it but if I hadn't looked in the hatch when I did, this story could have had a different ending for sure.
The cause of this major malfunction was from the heater core water line that was cut by a hole saw used in the process of installing the boats interior. The boat dealer claims the boat was water tested prior to delivery but at that point it did not fail. I don't believe it because when I inspected the hose it was obvious that the wall was completely penetrated and wouldn't have held any pressure at all.
For my troubles I got a stereo upgrade, shower install, and a letter of apology from the VP of Tige.
My boats been a problem child since delivery but dammit I love her !!
viva la Tige!!
