    Power surges

We have a 2008 20v and have problems with the power dropping off then surging repeatedly, while using the speedset. This happens with the throttle wide open in the middle of pulling a wakeboarder. I've double checked the throttle position to make sure it wide open. The speed will drop off significantly, like down from 16 to 5 mph then surge to 10, back to 8, surge to 14 or so, for example and then finally take off and maintain the set speed again. The ECM was not replaced but the software was reloaded and the problem still persists. Should the ECM have been replaced? The problem only happens about 1 out of every 3 trips to the lake and it might happen only once or twice during that one trip when it does happen. Anyone else experience this problem or have any ideas what might be causing this? Thanks in advance for your help.

It would be worth taking a look at the paddle wheel to make sure it is spinning freely. Do you keep the boat on a lift?

We trailer the boat to the lake and keep it in the garage when not on the lake. Does the 2008 Tige' speedset have a wheel? I was thinking it was throttle by wire...

When this happens and you take it off of speedset and just use the throttle does this still happen? If not I would look at the paddle wheel as suggested by chpthril.

So far, the problem only happens when using the speedset. It has not surged at all when the speedset was turned off. However, it does happen sporadically so I guess it's possible it just hasn't happened yet when just using the throttle.

Yes, the engine is TBW, but the electronic speedo signal is produced by a paddle wheel, and then sent to the ECM and Speedset processor.

I see. Thank for clarifying that for me! Beaver Lake in Rogers is really high this summer and there is a lot of debris floating around so that could easily be the problem. I don't have access to the boat right now. Is the paddle wheel obvious underneath? Thanks for your time and patience with an obvious newbie!

Our PP paddle wheel was giving inconsistent speed readings at speeds under 10 mph. Sprayed it with WD40 and it's working fine.

                  20V

I just bought a 2007 20V and I have only used it on Bever Lake in NWAR and I am having the same issues with speedset. Im sure the lake is a coincidence, but I guess I need to look at my paddle wheel too. Does it happen to you when not pulling a skier?

I've only used the speedset a couple of times when cruising and didn't have any problems with the surging then. It's only happened with pulling a wakeboarder. Is Skier's Wharf working on your problem?

that sounds like my issue exactly. i bought mine from stateamind in st louis, and more than likely they will be looking into it. if i find anything out, i'll let you know what the problem is.

Thanks! I appreciate that. I'll do the same. We rented a slip at Prairie Creek just for the weekend so I can't check the paddle wheel until next week when we take it out of the water. Our boat is red/black. Give us a shout if you see us on the lake!

I have same issues and the ECM typically needs to be flashed. Unfortunately my ECM has to be sent to MP so we are waiting until season is over.

Supposedly, the dealer did that. He called it something besides flashing the ECM but I asked if it meant the same thing and he said it did. It was something about reloading the software. Unfortunately, it did not fix our problem.

I am sorry to hear that. Others have had similar issues and flashing the ECM is supposed to be the fix unless your paddle wheel underneath the boat on right side when facing forward some how got damaged?

Good luck on getting it fixed.
