I understand that you are his friend, but you can get a better deal with a better warranty out of this for less money I am sure.
It is possible that I could find a new 20V on the West Coast or possibly the east coast for less than $38K depending on equipment. Then I have to deal with new boat taxes and also I would bet a transportation fee because I doubt TriValley or any dealer will transport for free from more than a few hours away and take another financial hit. There are dealers in Kentucky, St Louis, Northeast Indiana and I also think Michigan so I have a lot of options open to me as well as Jim. He doesn't have to sell but he would like to. He just knows he will get hit with more depreciation while he won't be able to use. Neither of us have to do a deal. We are just looking at choices. I am planning on looking at what is in my area that is less than 10 hours away because there is no way I will buy any boat on spec. I won't disclose Jim's prelim number but I will say 38k doesn't make me jump quickly. Now the ones for $29k may be worth a looksee.

the one for 29 is loaded. Has a sampson tower and ballast but it is far away. It bums me out because I just bought a 2007 20v for alot more than $29k. But I like my boat and did not buy it as an investment. I hope you guys reach a faur deal.

That boat is a nice one and low hours. It will be a good deal for someone but not me. Too far to go or ship or buy blindly.
If it is meant to be 1Lab and I will work it out. Other than a bunch of Tige warranty issues, 1Labs boat is virtually new and if not mistaken 3 year warranty is transferable and the structure warranty is too but not worth it.
Odds are they won't replace mine because of failure so that is not a concern. A new boat is used 5 minutes out the door. actually less than a minute so the key issue are we working on a fair number and do I like the bright colors. Th Wet Sounds are nice I could here them fine at 15 off so Jim and I need to give this more thought to determine if we both want to do it.

        Thanks all for the feedback.

Yep it's Tessa,1Lab or whatever you want to call him. I call him Jim.

For whomever may be interested, his wife called me a bit ago and informed me that he is in the hospital for his clusters right now. Jim was admitted in the wee hours this morning. He will be in for a week undergoing tests and some sort of drip to try and break the cluster cycle he has been in.

Going back to the original topic thanks all for the feedback.

Jim was very generous with his $ and efforts when Sean got hurt. Whatever faults Tessa/Jim/1Lab may or may not have he deserves credit for his efforts to help Sean. Please tell him we said "hi & we hope he gets better soon!!"

              Back on topic:

His boat did not have many real issues. It is very obvious Jim is a picky fellow (that's not a bad thing) and I think most people would never notice most of his issues. Keep in mind his boat was a show boat in 2007 for Reed's --who knows how many folks walked through that thing during the week! I have personally seen his boat shortly before he bought it, and I am extremely anile, and I noticed nothing wrong whatsoever. I have the same boat (2002) and I would not change a thing about it. I love it!!! Jim's boat is a kick-a$$ boat. Buy it. Use it. Love it.

              Welcome aboard!!
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

I have know Jim for many years going back to our stint in the Corps Reserve at what used to be Glenview NAS back in the previous millennium. Even though he will treat friends with kit gloves he has been known to loose his temper quickly. Many things have set him off over the years and I am sure from what he told me briefly I am sure a few of those have come up here. As you noticed he is very generous when others need help.

As to what he has found on his 20V Jim is very meticulous when it comes to his Boats, cars and motorcycles he keeps interiors and exteriors immaculate. His punch list for warranty work is pretty big. He has concerns with Teak, Interior quality( the material in all the corners are all wrinkled and bunched up), and a host of many things not worth listing. Some of the issues most people will not notice but he would while detailing the boat and for a new boat that had a list of around $50K from Reeds he wasn't real happy when he took it in for the warranty work. His biggest complaints is on the sundeck motor cover where the accent color comes together with the base color there is a 1/8" ridge at the tip of the V and of course whether the swim platform is Burmese Teak or Iroko Hardwood. We shall see what gets fixed.

(duplicate post from Iroko Teak Swim Platform On Early 07 20V thread)

I talked with Jim today and here is what he finally found out.

Fact 1- His 20v was built in November 2006.
Fact 2- The new swim Platform made of Burmese Teak were first shipped to Tigé around March 22,2007. Based on when its last order was filled Tigé seems to buy large inventory when it buys platforms. Jim has some other info but it should not be posted.

Per the undisclosed vendor, Iroko Wood is notorious for cracking, delaminating and the other symptoms documented on the forum.

It sure looks like the platform is Iroko wood from the info collected.
Harvey Smith from Tigé stated today the Iroko is teak and when Jim attempted to clarify he would not speak to the issue. He will talk to Production VP and Owner on Monday to get their read on this issue.

So it seems like Jim and maybe others will need to wait until next week to see how far Jim can get in getting to a resolution. He does not feel it will be resolved in his favor but all he can do is wait. Tigé holds the cards at the moment.

We hope this helps some of you. PM me if you need more info.

Unfortunately if Jim cannot get fake teak replaced with real Teak or fiberglass platform I probably won't buy.

So, you would turn down a boat based on the platform?

FYI. I have the same product and it is finctionally just fine. IMO (my opinion) it would be better off for you to get a new boat. That way you can argue with a vendor with a warranty in place rather than bug Jim when the slightest thing goes wrong cause from what I can tell - that is the last thing that he needs.

How you take the suggestion is up to you of course and I wish you the best of luck.

I sure hope the new platforms are not burmese teak as the United States has sanctions on any goods originated in Burma. That is the original reason teak prices went up and the over harvesting in burma. Plantation Teak is what is most likely used today as they are the seeds from Burma Teak (Tectona grandis), same family grown in africa, south america and elswhere. While the same genus this plantation teak will have some diferrent wood qualities depending on the region it was harvested and how old the tree was.

A little history on Iroko. While it is similar in appearance to Teak, it will darken as it ages. It is used as a teak substitute and does well if it is sealed and varnished. When used unsealed it is recommended that it be oiled frequently as it does not contain the natural oils of true teak.

In my opinion it does look sad. It needs to be sanded smooth using various grits of paper then cleaned and re-oiled. It will look ok once that is done but sooner or later it will crack, delaminate etc. Right now it is rough on the feet!

Sounds like a 1 year old Teak platform

Just an FYI, you dont want to sand them too smooth, as this will prevent them from taking the Teak oil.
