    Boat Running Very Warm...??

My boat is running warm, not overheating but running quite warm ~ 205 degrees. The boat is a ’03 22V with a 350 Magnum Tow Sports engine. First off, the boat always starts right up and has always run at of a temp of just below 175 degrees until this year. This is the situation, upon putting the boat in the water for the first time of the day (meaning the boat engine has time to completely cool down overnight) the temperature gage will slowly come up to temp of 175 degrees at an idle in neutral. As soon as I put the boat in gear the temperature begins to rise slowly to about 205 degrees where it stays throughout the day whether at idle in neutral or in gear, at high speeds or even towing.
    Checks/changes
Before issue: new recirculating water pump due to leakage at weep hole, new pump impeller.
After issue: new serpentine belt, new thermostat (verified working before install), new temperature sending unit. Checked the following and found no blockage: water pick up, intake hoses from impeller pump to transmission to engine. I also removed the hose on the exit side of the impeller and found plenty of water pressure.
Is there something else I can check or am missing? My concern here is I may have a head gasket leak, I once owned a vehicle that would run very warm but not overheat and it turned out to be a head gasket problem. Any Help would be great. Thanks ahead of time….

Do you know for sure what T-stat they reinstalled, I know mine runs a 165 I believe, but you go to any parts store the 165 are kinda hard to find if I remember right. but 175 are easier to get. Mine also runs about 10 degrees hotter.

Head Gasket-You need to check the oil. Milky grey color would be bad. If you have access to a cylinder pressure gauge. Then you could tell if there is any leakage-no air loss = good.
I am just throwing things out here.

Also even if it is a new raw water pump have you pulled and made sure you haven't sucked some thing up and is causing it to fail?? That can happen in a heart beat. Did it run warm right after the install of water pump. t-stat?? Or after you had it at the lake?

I know people have had issues with the v-drive clogging and starving the engine of water. It might not be completely blocked but restricted enough to cause it to overheat.

Oh good point mtnsmith, I forgot about the water running through the v drive. There is a filter that can be cleaned. I would also check that I believe it is on your left side as you face the back of the boat.

            samw,
Where exactly is this water filter? I have a 2005 24v. I did not see anything written on this or scheduled maintenance or need change. Maybe I missed it! Any help on this, where its written up, part no. etc would be much
appreciated. Have you changed this filter?

On my 24VE with the MP 340, the "filter" is actually a screen in the trans cooler. I've had it clog with lake debris so I installed a strainer on the raw water pickup before the cooler. It is on the left side when facing the rear of the boat. I cleared the debris by removing the hoses from both sides of the cooler and then flushing the screen with a hose inserted in the engine/impeller side of the cooler.

Gman, Sorry, what bk3104 is talking about is what I was meaning.

No problem. Now I know there is a screen there!

Here is my original post http://www.tigeowners.com/forum/show...light=strainer. The screen is in the assembly to the left of the strainer and I've never had any issues with the install.

Is it also possible that your previous impeller disintegrated and is clogging stuff up somewhere in the engine?
