New (to me) boat questions

I just picked up my first Tige this weekend, a 1999 21V Riders Ed. Being a 1999 it didn't come with any literature and there are a few questions that I have about some of the items on the boat. Does anyone have any kind of a manual for these boats? I would be happy to start off with a 'User's guide' that can help explain the how to and such for some of the options on the boat.
- There is a "trans oil" light on the dash that did not go out after starting the boat. I checked the fluid level and smell and it looked right. The temperature of the trans didn't seem to get excessively hot either. Any ideas?
- Does anyone know if there is a 'special method' for installing the back cushions? Some of mine are loose and I found the hardware in the holds under the seats. I can tell where the studs go through the wall and the fender washer w/ /nut will attach, but my arms don't come close to reaching and I'm not a bulky guy. Just wondering if I have to take out the seats that I can reach and then reinstall in reverse.
- I'll take some pics, but the engine looks to be sitting tilted slightly to the stbd side (has actually rubbed the engine compt bulkhead some). Is this normal or should I take it to the dealer and have it straightened? It looks like the engine can be straightened out in the engine compt but I don't want to mess anything up.

Congratulations on your new purchase.

There was very little information that came with the boats when new. The newer boats have some that are more complete. You can look at, and download, them in the downloads link at the top of this page. There are also Mercruiser manuals available for purchase from their website.

I don't have a v-drive, but I think the light is supposed to go out when the engine reaches 1,000 RPM. Dogbert has the same boat as you and just did his upholstery and can answer most of your questions I'm sure.

The trans oil light is always on at low RPM, it's no big deal. I don't think that the engine is supposed to lean, sounds like a worn out engine mount or something like that, I would have that checked out. congrats on the new Tige!!

You will love the boat. As far as manuals go, there are only manuals for the components of the boat (engine, shifter, gauges etc.). Tige did not publish a regular manual for the boat.
The trans light will stay on until you are above 1000 rpms. This is as it should be. These boats came with several different interiors, so pictures would help, however, most of the older cushions were held in place with screws in the seams. Mine are between the cushion and the welting. Dogbert is the expert on this.
Be sure and change your impeller if the previous owner did not, that way you will not be stuck in the middle of the lake with a boat full of frustrated riders. You purchased a great boat, and you will enjoy it I am sure.

By the way, my engine does not lean. I would have that checked out as there are many things to wear out if the engine, transmission, v-drive and shaft are not in proper alignment.

Thanks for the quick answers. I have more that keep popping up and will post them as I have time. I should be able to take some pictures tonight and get them posted, I have definitely noticed how everyone LOVES pictures here and should have known better than to post without them .
I'll be taking it in to my local dealer soon to have the engine alignment checked. Thanks again.

On our boat the "TRANS OIL" light is actually the V-drive oil pressure light. Ours did the same thing after it sat for 2 years before we bought it. I couldn't get the sensor unscrewed without stripping the nut (vise grips finally) so I got a new sensor. I was hoping to clean it out because I think it was clogged after sitting so long. The sensor is a pressure sensor, 2 psi, NC, Hobbs Corp. - 76061. It is normally ON at idle and will go out when sufficient oil pressure is being provided to the V-drive gears at +1000 rpm or so. It would probably be a good idea to change the trans and V-drive fluids if they haven't been done in awhile.

Our engine sits nice and level.

After having the boat out this weekend I confirmed it. Yes, the Trans Oil light goes out not too far north of idle. Thanks guys for reassuring me and easing my worries.

How do you check the hours on your boat? Can you do it from the Faria Commandar?

I don't have a Faria Commander. I just have the RPM gauge with a digital hour readout. I also have another hour meter on my PerfectPass.
