    motor questions

The 2003 22V limited didnt work out. However, I am chasing leads on used Tige's year models 2003-2007. Do I need to stay away from the Mercruiser MAG MPI 315HP? I think I found a decent deal on a 2005 22V, but it has the Merc in it. I also found a 2007 20V with the GM 340 HP motor. They are close to the same price, and I have found other 2005's that might be a little more cash(like 2k more) that have the marine power motor in it. Is the Merc a motor that can affect resale negatively? Should I view the Merc as a negative? Thanks for the help.

in my years as a tige tech. i just like the marine power better. i know when i went looking for my boat the merc was a deal killer. but thats just me not sure i would say the merc. would be a neagative for every buddy thats looking to buy your boat but it was for me. their are lots of guys on here that have the merc. and like them. but when it comes down to it i looked until i found a boat with a marine power. 07 20v w/340 is a nice set up. but that being said having the 2 extra feert never hurts.

I have the Merc 350 MPI 315hp, and have never had a problem with it. Maybe I am just lucky. Lots of those motors out there though. Maybe it is just probabilities, more engines, more problems.

My Merc. has been stellar for the 11 years I have owned it. I think one of the main reasons Tigé got away from Merc. was due to lack of warranty. That will not be an issue since it will be out of warranty. I would concentrate on the boat itself first then the engine second.

X2, 9 years on mine. Fuel pump problem once. Nothing else.

I had the fuel pump issue last season (10years) I also replaced the circ pump about 9 years.

I would call those very minimal.

Oops, forgot about the circ pump housing, I replaced that once too. But you are right, that is minimal, almost routine maintenance.

                    Engines

Hi Wannab. I think either engine is fine. The Merc impeller is tougher to change if you're doing your own service. I don't think the engine would make my decision. I would look more at the particular boat, condition, options and price. Also sent you a PM.

                      X2, except I didn't send you a PM.

Go with the right boat then the motor or trailer.

The only thing wrong with the 315hp is it's a carb's motor Same 5.7l GM block as all the others, just 315 horses with a carb.

Actually, you're wrong here. My 315 is an MPI, it definitely doesn't have a carb. Mine's 9+ years old with over 650 hrs and still runs like a champ.

May be the first in my life , but we have an 07 22I with a carb'd Merc 315hp on our lot right know. So, if the 315hp that your looking at is fuel injected, then I guess there is nothing wrong with it.
