It was my day to be the idiot... help

Tried to take the boat out for the first time of the season and the battery was low so I hooked up one of those external battery units you get from Costco that have jumper cables on them. Best part is I hooked up the cables pos to neg and neg to pos.

Needless to say the boat did not start and now something is broken. I have searched all the breakers, etc. and it seems that nothing has blown. Have I broke something larger?

Please help, I am no electrician. Any info would be great. I already know what a bone-head of a move it was so you can keep the insults to a minimum!

Behind the manifold by the distributor there should be a large red button that says "50" on it. This is your main circuit breaker. Push it to see if it resets. If that is not it then we need to go further.

Did it melt the battery terminals? I would change out the battery or test it with a new battery.
If its not fun, Why do it?

Not sure but is there a fusable link inline with the starter?
I can go and check after while.

Been there, done that. You blew the 90 amp fuse at the starter. Small square fuse that connects to the main terminal on the starter. About 30 bucks. I'm glad that blew and not everything else in the boat!

I'm not sure what to call it, but the 90A fuse block laserfish replaced might also be called a "fuseable link" or block, or whatever. It is a one-shot. I really don't like one-shot fuses right next to engine block heat in a place not easy to get to, so I replaced the block with a circuit breaker mounted on the transom. I think all the boat's power goes thru that 90A fuse block, except for what was directly connected to the battery. Power then goes to the 50A engine main, gauges, ignition, accessories, etc. If the 90A fuse block blew you would not have 12v at the 50A engine main.

R&T, great idea. It is a one shot deal, and it is a pain to get to. When we blew ours, we had no power, as it is connected to the main line to the battery.

I think on the newer model they went with a 90A Thermal link a few feet from the battery. Typically if a thermal link is overloaded once it cools down it will no longer be inop. On my 20V it is mounted on the port side just aft of the battery next to the bulkhead.

Thanks, I will look into this tomorrow. I'll let you know if it is the problem!

Does anyone know where this 90 amp fuse is located/looks like? Any pics would be awesome. I have the boat out today and am trying to figure this out. Thanks in adavance!

The main battery + power cable is connected to the fuse, and the fuse is connected to the starter. All within 1 inch. Should be able to see it at the starter if your boat has one, not all do. About a 1/2 inch square cube. Mine is whitish plastic. Ill try to get a pic for you.
