    Speedset Variance

I have a new 22Ve and the speed varies by 1-1.5 mph above and below the set speed when pulling a boarder with Speedset engaged. It is never steady on the set speed. Is this a normal variance? With no one being towed the boat has a noticable surge in speed when Speedset is engaged. Is this normal?

When you reach the set speed, and the Speed Set takes over, you need to put the throttle lever to WOT (wide open throttle), if not, it will surge.

The throttle has been set to WOT when the surge and the speed variation are occuring.

^^^^ Well. I'm out of easy ideas, sorry. Any fluctuation in the analog or digital speedo's?

I have mine fluctuating +-.5 but not to those extremes.

Perfect Pass has 2 settings that allow you to modify the values that dictate how far off from the set speed above and below. I do not remember what these were called. I know if you set these incorrectly it would surge trying to keep the speed as set. A too aggressively set value was not a good ride. Maybe there are settings similar to these for the Speedset that would help correct this problem. I know these really helped with the PP performance.

No, it's set to speed and not rpm's.

I always thought I was running in a speed mode for wakeboarding with PP. I know it could be switched to RPM mode which was supposed to work well for slalom.

Well, PerfectPass has a lot of settings, including sampling rates and such like billspin mentioned. I had to recalibrate mine once we started wakesurfing so it would react better.

It is the digital speed readout that varies so much. The analog guage seems pretty steady, but I wonder how readily it would show such a small variance and how quickly it would respond. The digital readout is very quickly changing constantly.

On the LCD, it shows "Set Speed" and "Actual Speed" Are these 2 the ones showing the fluctuation? Or is it the LCD "Actual and the needle gauge?

I think it can be adjusted, but not sure if it is done through scan tool or gage menu!

The variation is between the set speed and the actual speed. Thanks for the help.

I think thats pretty normal, but it depends on conditions. Like when butter, you should see only .5 differences most of the time. But in chop, you will get more. The main thing is that the rider doesn't feel the adjustments.

This gentleman has Speed Set not Perfect Pass. I think the digital will jump around but the speed has not changed near the amounts as the read out. You could always check it with a GPS.

When I use Speedset on my 2007 20V set to 33mph and throttle at WOT in calm water( not butter), you can feel the boat surging up and down in speed every time I have used it. It is on my warranty repair list when I take it in for wsrranty work when we come back from Bullshoals in the Ozarks on the 21st.
