So far, it doesn't seem like anyone knows the answer to the original question by Dog... ?? In the old thread listed by Matt, 21VFOX claims the wake is now "twice as big" without any weight, which seems somewhat surprising. What do you guys think?

I sent the guy an e-mail to get some answers. We'll see. I do remember talking to Erik Ruck about it because he had a 21v at the time (we rode with him when he was in Austin back in 2003).

My 2001 23V had the spray pockets and the one thing I noticed was the boat had a weight cap for the wakeboadring wake. The more weight you had in there the more the wake would wash. I put no more than 1500 pounds (roughly) of ballast in mine and it was fine, anymore and the lip would roll over. I think filling in the spray pockets would allow you to put as much weight as you want without the lip rolling over.

But would it give me a bigger wake without adding weight? If not, then it isn't really something I would consider.

                Here it goes!

First off, the wake will not get twice the size just by removing the spraypockets.

With that said, here are the reason why to do it.
All the wash will disappear. You can load the boat with as much weight as you want, no white wash whatsoever.
The wake will be rock solid, like hitting a kicker snowboarding.

In this picture there is 6 people and 1800 lbs ballast in the boat and no wash at all.

Also the surfwake is awsome. In this picture with 1500 lbs and 4 persons. (usually we load the boat with alot more)

And surfdad, you don't want to do this as a removable solution, once you've filled the pockets you'll never wanna go back.
I definitely recommend this modification to the boat, it's the best decision I've made.

Check this thread out. It was started by 21v_Swed and has his boat with pockets filled.
