    standard 320hp enough?

Hey guyz what's up?! I'm currently working on purchasing a new 20V and I'm curious if anyone has feedback on whether the standard 320hp engine is sufficient power or is upgrading to the 340hp a must. Your input is much appreciated.

I haven't been in a 20v, but I've been in plenty of inboards. The 320 will be plenty of power. You won't notice the other 20 hp. I think torque is as big as horsepower with these things anyways.

Thanks for the input! I was wondering if the extra 20hp was necessary or not. I know these boats tend to run a little on the heavy side, which I like, but I know it makes a difference especially once you add ballast, friends, boards, etc....

I think the other difference is that the 320 is carbuerated. You definitely want an MPI

The 320hp is MPFI. It will be more then enough for 20V, even with ballast and people.

Last fall I drove an 08 22Ve with the 320hp. With 3 peeps and ballast, I really couldn't tell the diff between it and my 340. I'll bet the torque of the 320hp is a lot closer to the 340hp then the old carb'd 315hp was.

I have a 01 21v limited with 315 hp and I have yet to run into a issue needing more power. Just my 2

My bad, I have the same engine as samw and it's plenty for my boat.

I ordered my Z1 (21') with the 340hp as we go to pretty high altitude lakes and it is always cool to have MORE POWER -input Tim Allens Grunt

We had the 315 hp in our 23V and it was fine. The 380 hp in our 24V is even better.

The majority of the boats are being built with the 340 HP power plant. My dealer says it's the most reliable and the one they would recommend. Reliability is a numbers game, so I'd go with whatever sells the most. IMHO.

But, 320 would be plenty 'o power.

The 320 is the same 5.7L GM block, just a tame version of the 340hp and the 360hp.

It's really all about increasing torque. I'd gladly sacrifice HP for torque. Re-propping is a good way to make the most of your torque.

Does the 320hp have throttle by wire?

Yep, used the same Tige/Marine Power Speed Set. The 315hp was the last engine Tige used with a cable, I think.
