what is better about throttle by wire rather than throttle by cable?

You can have a little more accuracy regarding speed with the wire than with cable.

One less thing to break unless the wire gets snipped.

TBW, all day long. Less resistance at the lever means easier to drive, no cable to get tight and need replacing. Computer control means less "hunting" with speed control engaged.

When I test drove my 20V I felt the 340 had better response than a 315 they had there. It may have been fuel injection and a little more torque that made the difference. Needless to say I went 340hp. Someday I'll get to take delivery and the lakes will thaw

I agree with TBW for myself but my wife had problems with it in the test drive while in rough water. It was very touchy for her. I think she was applying too much pressure because of the old Four Winns we had so I still vote TBW.

the only difference between the 340 and the 320 is the exhaust mainfolds and slight differnece in the ecm specs. we tested the Z1 when it came out and we had it loaded with people and could not tell the difference between the two motors. IMPO the 320 will be plenty for your 20V.

Unless there is more than one version of the 315, it's a fuel injected engine

Could be but my dealer ordered an 07 22i last year as a budget boat and it had a Merc 315hp carbureted. tktige was with me when we pulled off the breather. I 'bout $h!t my self when I saw this could not believe someone was still using a carb.

Just ordered a 20i with the 320 MEFI which I was told is a new option for 08. Could have saved $1200 by going with the carb. but that would not have been a good decision in this day and age. It is basically the same motor and I am covinced, especially in the 20i, it will provide plenty of power. I guess I will find out.

I have the 5.7 315HP, and mine is fuel injected. In 2000, the carb version is 260 or 265 HP.

I was told that the 315hp was dropped for 08, or at least not available in the V-drives.

That $1200 will come back 3x in resale value The 2 biggest reasons people upgrade boats is size and power. They may be the same 5.7 block, but they are worlds apart after assembly

Yeah, 8 yrs ago, 315 was a lot of hp out of a 5.7 in a boat. Now, MP offers a 360hp 5.7L

I am moving up from that 260hp carb. version in my 94 2002 FLSM to the 320 EFI so I counting on a very noticeable difference.

If you click on the z1 there is a carb 315hp listed as a powerplant option...but I would definitely go with the fuel injected either way...having had both.

I'm not claiming that 315 is a lot out of that block, I'm just trying to make sure that people don't mistake the old 265 for the present 315. It's amazing what they can do with fuel injection. They take the standard IO engine (4.3 merc) which had 175 hp, and make it 225 with fuel injection. I'm surprised they only get a 25hp jump with the 350. Does anyone know if the claims that fuel injection is more fuel efficient are true?
