    2100v - 1999 Questions

I'm a newbie to boating and I'm looking at a 1999 2100v limited. I've got young kids and I'd like to have space enough to take their friends & friends' parents out on the lake.

I've heard that some older Tige's had hull problems, which ushered in the lifetime hull policy.

Is 1999 one of the questionable years? When did the TAPS system come into being. Should a 1999 2100v have TAPS? The seller says he has a 500 lb. fatsack. Is that a plus or a minus?

I'd also appreciate some guidance on what general things to look for in a used Tige.

    Welcome,

Not sure when Tige introduced the Lifetime Hull Warranty, but I think it was before the 99's. Hopefully someone will post for sure.

TAPS has been around for quit awhile, that model should have it i believe.

Added ballast weight will only be needed for more advanced wakeboarders or wakesurfing, so take what he's giving with the boat.

There are a few of those on here and they are great boats from what they say. If you are new to boating, It would be well worth the money to have an experience marine technician inspect the boat. Things you want to look for would be:

Hull, for any damage other then the normal dock rash.
Drive line (prop, strut, rudder, tracking fins) for damage and alignment.

All electrical components are in proper working order: light, blower, bilge pump, gauges, horn, TAPS, etc.

Engine, Transmission, V-drive: check for fluid level, color, smell. Noise. Engine for proper operation and temp. Any leaks (water of fluid).

    Ask for maintenance records

Water test is a must, not only to make sure the boat is sound, but to make sure it will be the right boat for you. Tige makes an awesome boat. They are a great family oriented, multi-sport boat. I think you will be very happy in a Tige. If this boat was taken care of, you will have a great boat.

I owned a 1999 2100V Limited from new to 2006. No hull problems, came with life time transferrable hull warranty. Had TAPS. Great boat. Never had any problems.

In addition to obvious wear and tear items, I would look at the rear storage lids to ensure the screws holding the hinges in place are secure.

The fat sac is just a portable sac you can fill with water to increase the size of your wake by pushing the boat further into the water. It's a positive. Use it if you want it, leave it alone if you don't.

Look at the seams on the upholstry. The older models had some issues. Maybe tell the guy you want a credit to have any bad seats redone.

That boat will definitely have the TAPS system.

Lastly, Ive heard some rumblings abou the towers on some older models. You may want to give that a good thorough inspection as well as the gel coat near the mounting bases.

There are a couple people here who have owned that particular boat, hopefully they'll chime in here for ya!

As far as the people capacity goes, unless you can afford a bigger, newer boat, that 21ft will be just as good as any other similar sized boat out there. Relative to thier size most of the seating in this class (V drive ski boat)of boat is pretty universal. I have a 20V and I can comfortably carry 4 kids and 6 adults.
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

No prob, some of us have nothing better to do and are card carrying members of TOA (tigeowners anonymous)

Hi, my name is chpthril, and I have a problem

*EDIT* Oh, yeah, on a 9 yr old boat, expect the vinyl to be a little rough. It would be the last thing I would worry about. Easy to redo, just cost a little $$$

We bought a 2000 21V a little over a year ago and love it. It is very similar, if not identical, to the '99 2100V. We regularly have 4 adults and 6 kids in ours. We use ours for wake boarding, skiing, knee boarding and tubing. What engine does it have and how many hours? With anything that age it should be checked out thoroughly. Post some pics of the tower, engine, etc. and you'll get more comments. As long as the base boat is in good shape there's lots of expertise here on making improvements (Perfect Pass, prop, bimini. dual battery, gauges, etc.) and troubleshooting.

I have a '99 2100v Limited. I bought it new and it didn't opt for the tower. I added the Monster Tower almost 3 years ago along with PerfectPass, a major stereo upgrade, dual battery setup and some manual ballast. We usually run about 1200-1400 lbs of ballast plus people for wakeboarding and about 800lbs on one side for surfing. All Tiges in '99 had TAPS and the Convex V hull. My boat is built like a tank and put over 200 hrs on it this year alone. My boat's in great shape except for a few gashes in the upholstry from some careless guests. I plan to redo it this off-season so once again it will look brand new.

The '99 is a great boat and it wasn't until the redesigned 22Ve that I actually considered upgrading. Post some pics of what you're looking at and I'm happy to answer and specific questions about the boat.

As other have said, get the mechanical stuff checked - engine, vdrive, tranny, etc.
These seats tend to split on the seam in the middle. Mainly if they are stepped on a lot.
If it has a factory tower, it has been known to crack. Look at the top where the side upright joins the top cross bar. Typically around the bolt that joins the two it will crack. This is an easy fix to weld, just be aware of it. I actually had mine shear off the bolts that hold the lower legs on, i was told this happened because I did not loosen those bolts when I put the tower up or down. I finally got fed up with the tower and put a 2005 Tige tower on my boat, you can see it in the gallery section.

This hull was around until 2003, when Tige switched to the new hull on the 22V. After that they moved to the 22Ve. The big difference is they filled in the spray pockets on the 2003 and newer hulls, which changed the wake some.

This model boat is a great boat for all around fun. I have had mine for about 5 years now and every time I get tempted for a new boat, i can not find a reason to get rid of this one.
