2004 Tige 22V

I've been in search of a boat for a very long time and actually came close to breaking the bank by buying a 2007 Malibu VTX but was talked out of doing it by the lady I live with (wife).

We recently found a used (only 81 hrs) Tige 22V for sale and was wondering if anyone has this boat. If so, how does it handle? Thoughts or opinions?

My wife is a skier and I'm trying to get into wakeboarding and have done a lot of wake surfing on my friends Nautique.

The boat still has a warranty.

J/K. there are few regulars here with that V hull. I have the Ve which is the next gen but very close.

Ride and handling rival the best bowrider IMO. Takes the chop like none other. 81 hr is great, mine is 2 seasons old and i'm close to 200.

Give it a good look over just like any other boat/car/house/etc. If it was taken care of and not abused, you will have a great, well built boat there.

This boat will ski well, wake responds well to weight for boarding, and the surf is awesome with less weight then others need.

What are some of the options.

I have a 2005 22v, almost 300 hrs, and have loved it everyday that I have been on it. I spend a lot of time on boats with my job and everytime I come back and take out the tige I am reminded of how smooth the ride is, how nice a v-drive is to steer, and generally how nice the boat it. I only wakeboard, wakeskate, wakesurf, and the occasional tube ride, but have had a couple people slalom behind it and they have said it is a very nice wake. I would say that the skiing wake behind the tige would be a bit better than the malibu unless it had the diamond hull. Hopefully FIC will chime in and give you some skiing info since he has skied behind just about everything out there and has picked to be a tige dealer above other brands. Hope some of this helps.

Tandum Axle Trailer, Mercruiser 350 MAG MPI, TAPS, Perfect Pass, tower, bimini top, board racks, custom cover, bow filler cushion, vinyl walk-thru windscreen, Premium Sound System w/ CD player and six speakers, stainless steel rubrail, gear included (anchor, vests, dock lines, etc.), one owner and always stored indoors, low hours, engine warranty until 2/13/2009!

I'm supposed to take it out tomorrow. I know it'd the middle of the winter but I live in Texas and it's supposed to be 75 degrees tomorrow.

I have a 2004 22V but with the Marine Power engine. I would suggest carefully checking the vinyl - the seams on mine are pulled extremely tight and split just from people sitting on them. I bought mine used and the dealer got new seat skins, but after two years they basically all need replaced again. I never step or walk on them, the boat stays inside, etc. No help from Tige on this one. Also, my vinyl walk through windscreen won't snap on, but I don't care because I just use the bow filler cushion to stop the wind. The snaps appear to be in the wrong place (my dealer shrugged this one off).

The other thing to look at is tower pads - where the tower bolts to the boat. Mine needed replaced and Tige was out as of last spring, so some parts are probably not being supported anymore. I made due with some weatherstrip from Lowe's. My brother has a 2004 24V with the same problem.

With a 2004 boat, you could be getting close to time to replace the steering cable. Mine is noticably stiff compared to the beginning of last summer, but I don't know if that's related to age, or hours. My boat has about 340 hours on it now.

Like many of these boats, the gas gauge is a joke. If the needle gets to 1/2 tank, I have maybe 5 gallons left. It's a common problem you will see brought up over and over - there may be a fix but the sender is in the tank so it's not easy to get to.

All that said, it's a wonderful boat, built very solid. Top speed is around 42 but the boat will start to porpoise a little sometimes depending on how it's loaded. Top end burns about 24 gallons/hour of gas, about 11 gal/hour at wakeboarding speed with no boarder. All of the cleats, etc. have held up well, all the switches still work, etc.

The ski wake is much better than my old I/O but you have to get above 30 mph or so for the wake to flatten out. I have wakesurfed a little and some ballast or friends really help. It's a crazy looking wake going that slow with ballast.

The boat turns on a dime and feels very safe with my family in it. The value that Tige builds in is obvious when you compare their fit/finish/layout/innovation and price with the competition.

YIKES IS RIGHT!!!!! my 03 22v dont even come close to using that kind of gas. im in the 4-5 gal/hr range. that being said i think you will love the boat. the seams are an issue to pay attention to. the tower pads are really no big deal if needed. i think the boat will fit your needs just right. good luck and post up some pics.

With that said Mastercraft builds one heck of a boat and its fit and finish is great. Only one problem! They are overpriced. Significant bucks for a Maristar 200 MCS vs a Tige 20V being at least 10k less and that is before competetive discounts. Hell you'd be lucky to get a big discount on the Mastercraft.The Tige outhandles, outrides and out accelerates the Maristar 200 with forked tongue.

Yeah, it's a lot of gas. Now that I think about it, I might have the 11 gph number wrong - this was a few months ago and it might have been 8 gph. It was a lot more than I thought it would be. The 24 gph is right though, at 5500 RPM with 4 guys in the boat, slalom mode, on a perfectly smooth lake. Slowing down to 35 mph dropped the consumption into the teens (I'm thinking 18 gph or so).

This spring when I go back out I can hook the flow sensor up again and double check. I've used the same sensors to check some other marine engines (stern drive merc's and 2 outboards) and it's usually pretty close to the factory installed gauges.

As for the vinyl, I don't get it. It seems like a design problem, and I've noticed the newer boats have the seams done differently so than mine so Tige has probably improved. I'm thinking of going to a local upholstery shop and seeing what they can do for reasonable $.

Woa there Nelly. I think for the money Tige is a superior boat to the Mastercraft Maristar series. I wouldn't have spent the money on my 20V if I did not think so.

All I was saying is that Mastercraft has good fit and finish. Hell the 1999 models actually came with sponges built into the seats.

But why should you have to repair the interior seams. I have heard of this a couple of times and it is dissapointing.

Didn't come across quite right, sorry. What I was trying to say was that I do not see (in the case of our 22Ve) a $15k - $20K diff between a Tige and the other big three. IF the fit/finish and vinyl quality are not as good as the others, I could replace the interior 3x over the same life span with the money saved.
