    22Ve Questions

Hi guys, first post, but have been lurking for several months researching my upcoming boat purchase. Have pretty much settled on a 2008 22Ve, but had a couple of questions:

If you exclude the swim platform, how long is the 22Ve from bow to back of the TAPS plate? I have 23' inside dimension in my garage and want to ensure it will fit.

How tall is it with the E series tower collapsed? Is the E series THAT difficult to collapse? Been reading good things about the Sampson tower, but wondering if it is worth the hassle to get the dealer to switch towers.

Do the 2008s come with the dripless driveshaft packing?

Don't forget the tongue of the trailer. Mine comes out completely so the bow is the furthest piece forward, but I know some swingaways stick out a bit further than the bow of the boat. Be careful.
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Great choice you will love the 22Ve.

length: I'd say add 10" for the TAPS. Should fit with a swing-away tongue.

height: could vary as much as 6" from one trailer to another.

tower: the E is not too bad to do. I can do it by myself. Are you ordering or buying off the showroom floor. If ordering, leave off the tower and go with the Sampson. If not, may be hard to talk dealer into removing as he would have to sit on tower and order a boat with out and then install. Added cost that you would more then likely eat.

Keep us posted. Welcome to the site and I know you will enjoy the Tige

You're probably thinking about the PSS Shaft Seal system: http://www.shaftseal.com/

It uses a SS ring secured to the prop shaft and a thick carbon disk clamped in a bellows. Water pressure in the bellows pushes the carbon ring against the spinning SS ring to form the seal. The 1st owner of our boat had it installed. I would ask specifically about it when you buy and recommend it if it doesn't come with it (probably does). I check it regularly and haven't had any problems. Works great.

All Tiges come with the dripless driveshaft packing.

WWOOOOHOOOO! One thing off my list to do next year. After I saw that my 2002 had never had its impeller changed I assumed the rest of the maintanence was equally bad-- I had planned to change my stuffing box in the spring. Now, I am pretty sure I have the PSS, so no need to do so! Yeah!
I have the buig rubber boot that sure looks a lot like the one in the link and I was wondering why my bilge never got a drop in it; now I know why.
            TY for the link R&T!

Exactly 22' 2''. 21' 6", plus another 8" for trim tab. See diagram for how the measurment was arrived at. I measured using plumb bob. Had a tight fit in my garage of only 22' 4". I am checking on the E-series height and will get back to you.

Here is the tower height measurements:

Point 1: 6' 7" high at approx 70" horizontal from back if billet is laying on deck
Point 1: 6' 4.5" at approx 70" horizontal from back if billet is laying on cleat (as shown)

Point 2: 7' 7" high at approx 110" horizontal from back
Point 3: 7' 7" high at approx 153" horizontal from back

I can collapse tower myself with no help.

Anyone know if the Sampson tower collapses lower than the Tige tower?

If so, you are talking only a few inches. All the towers seem to fallow the windshield angle. I think the biggest diff in over all hight, is in the trailers.

one thing to consider is a swing-away tongue on the trailer. That'll save you at least a foot.

If you are getting a custom trailer made make sure they understand your critical dimensions. On the 2007 20V I bought in November we still are w/o trailer because they goofed the first time.

My total allowable length with swim platform removed is 20'5". This was clearly on sales conract. The other critical dimension for me is with the tower folded the mirror billet and mirror measured form a level trailer to the floor is 86 1/2". Second dilemna here. The height of my garage upper sill to the floor is 82 1/2" close to 5 inches short of letting the boat in the garage.Once the mirror/ billet is past the sill the boat can go in the garage if the custom shop redoes the length. Because my older Four Winns fit height wise I never thought to check that. If the custom house cannot deal with lowering the boat on the trailer I will use the largest drop down hitch I can find. The crazy part of all this is the dealer checked the lenght 3-4 times and were sure they could do 20' 5". Now it is hurry up and wait to see if thebuilder used by my dealer can build what I need.

Tige Tower to High on 20V on a Trailmaster Vantage

On my tower the highest point was 86 1/2" which is 5 1/2" too high on a Trailmaster Vantage Trailer with 14" tires. My garage opening at the sill is 81 1/2" so I have a big oops. I am having both the length and height customized and they are lowering the bunks by 3 inches which still leaves me with 2"-3" to lower the trailer to get it in the garage.

We are going to try a 10" drop down hitch to lower it the rest of the way. If I can find a longer drop doen hitch I will go with it to buy as much gap as I can at the door sill and the garage door when up.

If you can skip the stock tower and go with a Monster or possibly a Sampson you don't have the same clearance issues of the tower parraleling the upper frame of the windshield and having the lower pivot and mirror billet being so high.
