2001 Tige 21v Riders Edition - need advice!

Hello Tige owners. I'm in the market for a v-drive and want an all-around skiing, tubing, wakeboarding boat. I'm not a skiing purist, so willing to compromise on the wake with the v-drive in order to have, in my opinion, a more family/guest friendly seating arrangement. I have 4 kids 11 or younger. I found this boat:

    http://www.boattraderonline.com/cadd...8/84536328.htm

and talked to the marina where it's at. Only 72 hours! They said it's in near perfect shape but not much wakeboard interest in their area so they want to get rid of it. Said they would pop it in the water if I wanted to take it for a test. Their service dept. says engine in great condition. They're asking $30k but I had him talked down to $25k before I got off the phone. Is this a buy at $25k? I've also looked at Malibu v-drives and have a few options in the $25k range but with 300-500 hrs on them.

My question to you owners, since I have no expertise with this boat, is, would it be suitable for what I want to do with it? It's a heavier boat than the Malibu's who's dry weight is about 2,900 lbs.

I would really appreciate any feedback!

    Thank you!

If the boat was taken care of, you will have the perfect to do what you want. The added weight will give the best ride of any tow boat. Rivals many bowriders of similar size IMHO. These boats put out one heck of a surf wake when weighted right

You should deffanatly water test it before hand, just to be sure.

What are the other options/accessories i.e tower/ stereo, tower speakers heater, shower, trailer etc. Check NADA for your are and see where that asking price falls in.

Thanks for the advice! I see my link got truncated so will try this one:

      http://www.clintonmarine.com/moredetails.html?84536328

The boat has a tower, PP, stereo, TAPS and ballast. Single axel trailer. NADA has low retail at $25k and high at $29K so maybe I should try for lower price?

By the pictures the boat came fullly equiped. Only issue I see is the tower on that boat has been prone to cracking on the top welds. Do a search on here for Metcraft Towers.
        Let it be!!!

Yes, I had read a little about that. Don't think it will be an issue for a while since my oldest is 11. So, if the test drive pans out ok do you think it's worth $25k? Can also always put on a new tower at some point if needed.

I bought a 1999 2100i with 145 hours on it this July. It's not a vdrive, but I can tell you that we love the boat and the family has had a blast with it. Great boats.

I have the exact same boat. just purchased it w/ 170 hrs. i paid 30k here in az. searched all summer and could not find one that cheap! The boat is perfect for what you are looking for, and it has a good slolam wake w/the taps.

Thanks! That really helps. Could you tell me what engine is in her? Does anyone have the engine or boat owners manual in pdf form they could send me?

                  Thanks again!

I was in the same boat as you (no pun intended) back in 1999 when I ordered mine new. It's been a great boat for us and when we're all loaded up, our wake is right up there with the best of them. The engine is most likely a Mercruiser 350 MPI Tournament Mag (315 fuel-injected ponies). It's a very versatile boat that is definitely ski-able. It's surprising how small and soft the wake is at 32 Mph, given the beam and weight of the boat.

It looks to be in good condition, but I'd pay particular attention to the rear seats. They tend to wear at the seams on a V-Drive because there's not really a good way to step into the boat without stepping on the seat. When they get wet it creates added stress. You can avoid by taking out the middle seat cushion and adding some gator grip for folks to step in the boat.

We love our boat. It's built like a tank and looks great on the water. I would make sure there's a dealer within reasonable driving distance because the dealer can make a huge difference in your enjoyment of the boat.

We have had our 21v for 5 years now, and I wouldn't trade it for a new one. The seats in the boat you are looking at are just like mine, and dont have many seams to tear. Plain vanilla, but less to go wrong. I have the same tower, and yes it did crack. However, it was an easy 25.00 fix by a competent welder. No problems since, but I do check it every trip as I would any tower. Great boats, great wake, great handling, great factory support, can't say enough good things. Take it out and try it, you will love it but be careful the wake will scare your 11 year old if he has not boarded very long. Have him take it easy at first.

I looked at this same boat. It is a great boat. I settled for a 01 21 v limited instead. Basicly the same boat. The boat I purchased was closer drive for me. I would say if it drives and looks great then do it. You will love the boat.
Check out the steering cable. If it is hard to turn at have them replace it.

We got a 2000 21V last year for $27k that had 41 hrs. on it. Love it & it's well built. The tip of the nose had a little chunk missing from a dock hit, a scratch on the side of the nose from a belt buckle, a 4" square mar on top of the transom from a flapping tarp and a blue stain on a seat from a towel. Other than that it is in excellent condition. We have 3 kids - 11, 12 & 14 and frequently have 7 -9 people in the boat and there's plenty of room. It has the 350 Mercruiser Mag MPI Ski motor and the stock OJ 14-18 prop. Plenty of power, but I'm going to put on a 13.5-16 prop by next summer. The seat is a little low, but taller pedestals are available. Ours did not come with PP, but has it now ($1k).

I would be concerned about a single axle trailer for this boat.

Wow! Thanks for all the great advice everyone! Yes, that single axle trailer seems a bit light duty for the weight of the boat, and I'd have to tow it 6 hrs to WI. Hmmm. Well, it deserves a test drive for sure. I'll let you all know what I end up doing.

I hope it's ok to say on a Tige forum, but I'm also interested in a 2001 Malibu Wakesetter VLX for basically the same price. Wish I could test drive both. Anyone have any experience or thoughts on that, without flames ? Just trying, as I'm sure you all did, to make the best, most informed decision on a fairly substantial purchase!
