Hey guys I was out at the river this weekend and found that the boat had a difficult time turning to the right on a plane. It would turn to the left normal but when i went to the right it didn't respond to well and seemed like it was almost cavitating. Im pretty concerned anyone know anything about this. Boat is a 2004 24v. All the running gear and skags look ok i do have a minor ding in my prop that im gonna get taken care of this winter.

Your steering helm is probably a rack. Our 2000 21V is a rotary helm and the 2001 21Vs were rack and pinion. The racks are generally 4 turns lock to lock. Are you getting the full 4 turns? Our steering arm nearly hits the transom when all the way right so make sure nothing slipped down in there to block the arm. If the inside of the cable housing was corroded the steering would be stiff both directions. If the steering shaft was badly corroded if might be stiff in only the right direction since that part is not in the housing when the steering wheel is centered. I used to "park" our wheel centered, but now I leave it over left as someone in another post suggested.

If I have my boat extremely loaded on the port side and try to turn starboard at higher speeds, it simply won't go. At surfing speeds, I can turn fine either way.Be excellent to one another.

I had that happen when I first bought my boat.. Just me and my daughter. (she weighed about 90 # to my 270. It was like chine lock on a sea doo. Boat did not want to turn. Just backed off the throttle a little. Boat has not done it sinceLast edited by xpjim1; 09-12-2007, 03:11 AM.Let it be!!!

Thanks guys your probably right about chine lock that makes a lot more sense because i only experience it sometimes, i didnt have any ballast but i had 8 people in the boat. I also have experience chine lock while going over wakes taking them on my side. The boat dug in on the side and heeled over scared the shXX out of me the first time, just backed off the throttle and all was well. Thanks again for the replies

I've had the same problem when running a lot of ballast in my '04 22v. Your prop is indeed cavitating- let off throttle and you'll be able to turn.Freude am Fahren.
