First time oil changer! Help a brotha out!

2000 21V....350 MPI...need to change all the fluids, spark plugs and impeller.....I have a 12v oil changing pump rig still in the wrapper.

    1. How much oil, tranny fluid, and V drive and what TYPES do I need and filter#?

    2. How do I get all those fluids out?

    3. How do you change the impeller?

    4. Spark plug gap?

    Thanks a ton in advance!

I've also got a 2000 21v, am trying to change the oil for the first time as well. I ran the oil hose out the drain hole in back and took the nut off...and nada, no oil coming out. I started the boat, let it get hot to thin the oil out, and it still won't drain out. I'm hoping someone responds to your thread cause I need help!!!!

      1. My dealer knew everything I needed to know.

      2. My boat has a hose that drains out the oil, yours may need a pump.

      3. Locate your water pump, Its connected to the hose that goes through the hull. You need to remove the water pump and take out the impeller, and install the new one and then reinstall the pump.

      4. I have no idea, sorry.

Did you try opening the cap to let it vent? Did you make sure the hose was straight and didnt go up or was kinked?

        Got it

Ended up sucking on the end of the hose to get the oil flowing.

        Thanks

Just curious, could you tell what weight and brand of oil you were draining out by the tast of it. "YUCK!"

For ease and simplicity, you should buy a fluid evacution pump, hand operated. Usually you can find a good one at an auto parts store. You can push the pump hose over the oil drain hose and within a minute or so you can have all of the oil sucked out. Those pumps also work great for fluid changes in the transmission. Just dip the tube down as far as it will go into the trans. and work the pump, a few strokes and your done.

absolutely get an evac. pump for your boat. my boat is the same year and we do not have the drain tube. the evac. pumps are great! don't buy a hand held pump they will make a mess and you'll end up pissed with a sore arm. get the evac. with a canister for everything to go into. they are cheap and worth the small amount of extra $$$.

Gotta have a oil suckerouter pump...

I use an oil pump and suck the oil out through the dipstick... My 2100v has a oil drain hose, but is is very skinny. I pump all the oil out throug the dipstick, then put the pump on the drain hose to get the sludge out of the bottem...

Also.. I spend extra time on putting a plastic bag full of rags under oil filter when I take the filter off to catch all the mess. It is way easier to prevent the mess then to clean it up.......

On the tuneup parts.... I got cap, rotor and plugs at Advance Auto Parts by searching an 88 Silverado truck with a 5.7FI motor. This got me exactly the right cap & rotor, but the wires were a little different......
