Dunno....The ends of mine are stainless. I would assume stainless or some sort of alloy.

        Just an update,

The coolant is no longer going down. It must not have been filled from the dealer. Since I have added about 3/4 gallon, it has not gone down any more. I fixed the ballast with a new pump as well.

Only issue now is the tough steering. It does not seem to be loosening up. Maybe I need a new cable? I sure hope not.

I was going to say WD40.... Not good for the water but great for getting things lubricated.

Try some anti-sieze down towards where the cable meets the rudder. That should be able to get into the shroud and lube the cable itself.

How do I do this? Do I have to take the cable off or something to lube it?

look behind your engine- you'll see the pivot point for your rudder and where the cable attaches. Spray some love on the cable (wait... that came out wrong). Err... spray some lube or anti-seize on the cable and have someone turn the steering wheel side-to-side.

Also, dont forget to grease the rack & pinion under the dash. There will be a rubber cap on the starboard side of the rack assembly (just on the underside of the dash). You'll see the steering cable going into the other side. Simply pull that cap off, turn the steering wheel hard to port (left), so that the rack moves all the way to the port side. Next, shoot some waterproof axle grease in there and work the steering wheel left to right. Finally put the cap back over the end of the rack assembly.

a thought just occurred to me- stop by your local cycle gear and grab some chain lube. I use this stuff on my dirt bike and its pure gold! ok, not really, but you know what I mean.

Ok, I lubricated the crap out of everything. Still really stiff. Anything else to try? Are there any adjustments to be made? Is it possible to lubricate the steering cable in the casing?
