Yep, I would guess fuel pump is your best bet. You can probably test the fuel pressure, but if its low, then chances are its the fuel pump. If I recall, not terribly expensive, nor hard to replace. Mine went out on a perfect weekend in Northern Wisconsin, I was a slight bit irritated to say the least, but that's a different story.

As for the locker, yep, the back seat needs to come out to get that panel up. Should just be some washers and nuts on the back side of it. Your other option would be to tie a string around the old line and try to fish a new one in as you pull the old one out?

I replaced that fuel pump in my boat last year. If that is the original, it has been discontinued. They make new updated version and it runs about $400.

I'm not going to be much help on that particular tank as mine was different but, check out my ballast thread. I completely gutted the trunk and installed a new tank.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

I have a 99in 2200i since new. Encountered similar issue a little at Havasu more frequently Powell. Replaced most all of what you have cited. The cure for me is easy and FREE!!! At the conclusion of a drive or especially a run/pull.......idle prior to shut down. Pull lake water thru system monitor temp gauge and watch it drop...'Cool Fuel'. Since we incorporated this practice we have been issue free

I liken this to helicopters I sometimes work around....In The SoCal high desert with high temps they idle prior to shut down.....not that a tige can fly but seems to work.
If you are locked up...take ice from cooler and pack fuel pump for a few....that seemed to work for us as well...

Our problem accentuated at Powell, 3600-4000 feet with ambient 100°, idle cool down seemed to work...

It's pretty impressive that almost everyone I had hoped would respond has. Thanks again for the help guys.

I was only able to get a couple things done this weekend, but it's coming along. I picked up a fuel pressure tester (TBD), siphoned the tank (gas didn't look or smell bad, but will start with fresh gas anyway), checked the fuel and vent lines for kinks again, and changed the tranny fluid (unrelated but was on my to do list) this weekend.

Next steps are to fill with fresh gas, add Marine Stabil, fire her up and check the fuel and water pressure.

NickyPoo, from what I've read the "new" fuel pump is combined with the cooler unit now right? Damn $$$ suckers. Anyways, incredible remodel! Your ballast thread was part of my reading homework before posting.

Read on Stoneman’s fuel pump thread about K and K Marine selling just the pump on eBay, but couldn’t find their store on there anymore. Maybe it’s gone. R&T Babich, you got one from them right?

TeacherCop, great advice with helping out for the vapor lock issue. Mine always starts right up, but I will put that into practice and see if it helps the throttle bogging. Seems pretty logical to me with the hot temps we get in the Central Cali Valley.

Hey guys, after some searching last night on the engine (serial OF874999) and researching online this morning, I realized I don't have fuel rails, duh! It's a single point injection at the throttle body, not MPI. So where else could I check the fuel pressure? I don't see any schrader valves anywhere, so maybe this task has just become more difficult.

                    Thanks

After searching around I found this adapter with schrader valve for throttle body injection engines:

There are several K&K Marine's, but I don't remember which one. They were probably just clearing out old inventory and I got it as a spare since the price was good.

Finally getting around to testing the fuel pressure after changing the filter and adding fresh fuel plus marine stabil to a siphoned tank. With the adapter and gauge hooked up to the fuel line into the throttle body, it was reading ~42 psi after idling for several minutes and at increased rpms. Seems high compared to the ~30 psi I have been told it should be. Note this was done in the driveway with a fake a lake and the transmission disengaged.

Could the fuel pressure regulator be the culprit, or would the pressure read a lot higher? The engine has never just shut off or not started back up after turned off, just loss of acceleration when throttling up.

I also looked at the spray pattern on the fuel injectors and they looked ok, but might have them cleaned anyway. Local Merc shop quoted $30 per injector, seems like money well spent.

Not sure where to turn next.

Two outings under the belt (Lake Piru for an afternoon and Big Bear for 4 days this last weekend) since the fuel system clean out and the boat ran great both times. I implemented TeacherCop's advice and let the engine temperature idle down after runs and ran the blower. No throttle bog issues to speak of.

I'm thinking of investing in a spare fuel pump as there seems to be a whining sounds coming from its location. Also, a spare fuel pressure regulator (and fitting) as the fuel pressure was slightly higher than the ~30 psi per the manual.

After researching I found that two aftermarket pumps are available to replace mine (Merc #861156A1):

                            Airtex: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ATX-E11004/

                            Mallory: http://www.marinepartssource.com/new...%20Fuel%20Pump

What do you guys think of aftermarket vs. Mercruiser? At $124 for the Airtex pump, it's pretty cheap insurance to save a trip if your pump goes out.

Also, anyone have any fuel pump installation issues? Are there any other parts that need to be replaced along with the pump? For example, I read that the fitting on the front of the fuel pressure regulator almost always needs to be changed with the regulator as it breaks off when trying to disassemble the regulator.

                            Thanks
