The most common cause of this problem is constant water in the bilge. The end of the cable that exits in the bilge is stainless, but even stainless will rust if submerged for long periods of time.

AN I DRIVE IS WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY EASIER THAN A V OR VE. AN I DRIVE TAKES AN HOUR THE V AND VE SERIERS IS MUCH HARDER AND I MEAN ALOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! DID I MENTION THAT A V/VE IS ALOT HARDER. ZAD0030 COULD NOT BE MORE WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(WITH ALL DUE RESPECT) VE/V CABLES ARE ALOT OF WORK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! BACK SEAT COMES OUT/ FLOOR /GAS TANK LOOSEN AND LIFT. IF IT HAS BALLAST EVEN MORE DIFFICULT TO ACCESS RUDDER!!!!!!!!!!!! AND THEN THERE IS THE WHOLE GETTING THE STEERING WHEEL CENTERD THING.

Ok i get it now. I knew Ve/V drives were different than an I but i didnt know that much. I thought you might have easier access to the rudder area but then after studying the pictures i took when doing mine i noticed that the engine sits right on top of it.

As for centering the steering wheel we planned ahead and turned the wheel all the way to the left to that the tiller arm was at close to us as possible. then made sure that the new cable went in in the contracted position so that when we connected it to the steering wheel it was already aligned.

Not to mention making sure it turns the right direction huh? I recall you or Dom saying it feels like you were in a car wreck after doing the cable in my 22v? It was like butter when you got it dialed in for me though, thanks again.

yeah mine was so hard before I got it replaced. It's still not as easy as my freind with the closed bow tige, but still very easy.
