    21V Rider Edition

First time looking at a TIGE boat. I'm looking at a 2000 21V riders edition. Was wondering if anybody can help me with the pros and cons of the boat. Hoping this can be a good family boat for all water sports (wake boarding, surfing, skiing, tubing, knee boarding, and a little bare footing). The boat looks solid but what about the engine and what other features come with a TIGE.

We have the same boat you are looking at. It is the only boat I’ve ever had(purchased 5 years ago). I hear everyone say the stock towers can crack. But you can either weld it or get a aftermarket one. Mine came with a aftermarket tower. I’m trying to think of downsides to this boat......... when you look at the other options in this category (price) I think you come out ahead. Wider than most in class and other people say it’s built like a tank. I was just thinking this last week that the only thing I can’t change about this boat that I would like in a new boat is it’s height. With ballast it seems like it sits so close to the water especially in the bow. With the newer bigger boats out there you just have to be careful. Surf wave is great, wakeboard wake is good ( not a very clean lip but very usable), and tubing and kneeboarding are no prob. Never skied behind it, so I can’t say. Let me know if you have any other questions, good luck.

The pro for us was that it was a tow sports boat that we could legitimately afford without financing our lives away. We had the opportunity a year prior to purchase to go out on a Tige 20V and surf and we were sold on the brand. We do all the above sports minus the bare footing. We enjoy the space the 21V has and are a family of 5 and always have guests with us. Storage is good but we did move from a 18' Bayliner. There was a Metcraft tower used in our years that most all shy away from, but a tower swap isn't that bad. Ours has the 315 hp Tow sport engine and not sure what that year has. If the engine is the same we haven't had any issues other than routine maint . Perfect Pass was already installed on ours and it is a very nice feature. Our years Tige's had wood stringers and are very solid making a nice ride on the water. Most marina's or boat repair shops do offer a pre-purchase inspection. Welcome to the site. Post pics when you can.

I owned a 21V before I bought my R21 and the 21V is an incredible boat. Way ahead of it's time in regards to the surf wave when it has the correct ballast and prop (Get with Chp on the forum for that stuff). The width of the boat is also awesome. The engine is the Merc350 which means you have parts galore for it.

If it does have the original tower I would recommend getting a new one. Especially once you start loading it up with 2-6 boards, speakers, etc....that gets heavy FAST then top all that off with the load that's put on it trying to pull a 200 lb+ adult out of the water who might be trying to learn how to get up on a board....

Hey burnmac what were some of the perks/niceties that came from the switch to a newer boat? I have auto ballast/ FAE / and speed control. Wondering what the switch would be like some day.

I just bought one back in August. Upgraded from a bayliner 175. It sat for a couple years before I got it so it took me a couple months to get all of the maintenance up to date. Haven’t looked back since. Absolutely love the boat. We’ve added a Bimini, sound system, underwater led’s, and several other small things. Love the room. Love the surf wake. It’s been very good to us.

No listing to surf, Taps 3, much deeper freeboard (we have 3 little ones), 5 yr warranty on EVERYTHING, etc. Plus the modern vinyl is a lot nicer, the carpeting won't mildew, the raptor motor with internal cooling should be more reliable......I plan on having a boat for the next 2 decades and thinking about owning a 35-30+ yr old tow boat wasn't appealing to me.....I plan on keeping this one for 7-8 yrs and then if everything goes as planned upgrading to an RZX (or whatever the equivalent is at that time)....

I’m looking at buying my first boat also and was looking at a 2000 21V also. What do you guys think on price? The one I’m looking at has 400 hrs and is listed at 21. I’m thinking that’s a little high.

Also, anything specific to look out for when I go view it in person? Appreciate the help I’m looking forward to joining the Tige family!

I got lucky and got mine at 15k. 2000 with 410 hours. Boat day for a couple years before I got it so I’m still getting all of the small mechanical issues worked out. I did get lucky on the price. It was listed by a broker and you had to sign a contract to even see the boat, I’m sure that turned off a lot of potential buyers.

Seems like 17-20k would be my guess. 17 in the winter (now) and 20 in the summer? i guess the going price is, whatever the average of all the similar boats are listed at on craigslist

I bought a 2000 2100V Ltd last July and it is perfect for our family of 5. I’ve added perfect Pass, monster tower with Bimini top and racks, and in process of adding Chpthrl’s ballast system. We mainly surf and the boat will throw a nice wave. I think price depends on condition of interior, hours, and location. If it is clean and runs good, I don’t think 20k is bad. I could not find a V drive in decent condition with low ours for less than 20k. Good luck and there are so awesome people on this site.

One last thing, have a mechanic check it out. It was $125 at our local marina

Did you end up with it? We have an 01' 21V riders edition. We have had it for 9 years and it has been a great boat. We are waiting on the vinyl to come back from the upholsterer. We plumbed our own ballast and built our own wake plate. The surf wave is top notch. We have the perfect pass, transom shower, heater, stereo, just got some Kicker KMS674 to upgrade the tower speakers and an ACME 1235 prop (we have the reduced v drive blue in color, the black v drive is a 1:1 if I'm not mistaken and uses a 3 blade prop). Maintenance wise we have only needed to do fluids and filter as well as preventative impeller changes each year. Boat has 800+ hours on it right now.
2001 Tige 21V Fresh Air Exhaust, ballast, loud stereo, blue v drive, ACME 1235 prop Kneeboarding, Surfing, and having fun!

Didn’t end up buying...drove 13 hours only to find out the guy lied about the hours (300 more than he said) and it was extremely dirty. I couldn’t believe he didn’t put any work into cleaning it. But...I found two more better ones closer by that I’m hopefully narrowing into a decision this weekend!
