Alternator wire size

Good morning everyone. I recently picked up an 03 22v with the excalibur 330. I'm in the process of doing a dual battery/upgrade alt and I was hoping someone knows the stock wire gauge coming from the alternator.
I need to have 4gauge for the new alt (140 amp) and I highly doubt the stock is 4g but I wanted to ask before I buy new. Thank you in advance!

Its not 4ga for sure, likely 10.

Should I fuse that 4g wire from the alt to the perko switch?

As a tip, when I'm (re)wiring something like this I usually go up a gauge from the stock wiring, particularly in high amp environments like starter circuits and main battery switches. The incremental cost of the next higher gauge is usually small, and since wire losses increase with the square of the current, it's a cheap improvement.

Absolutely not a *requirement*, just a personal thing I do that I thought to share. YMMV.

That's usually my thought as well. Usually I don't go smaller than 4g for anything like that. Cheap piece of mind.

4ga would be more than enough for a 140A alt. Fusing the alternator feed is not normal because its a 2-way street so to say.

Dont run it to the switch, it goes to the starter.

I just noticed Sunday that it was run to the starter. I'll keep it that way thanks for all the info everyone
