Brightness control, screen freeze 09' 22ve

I'm wondering if this is part of the typical touch pad failure?

I've read and searched plenty but none of the other problems sounded quite the same as I'm having.

Fairly often my screen will freeze either to the "main" logo or the speed screen but without showing any info (all fields blank). Sometimes if I cycle the cruise control switch I can recover screen operation. But usually I have to shut down the boat and restart.

Then last night I tried adjusting the brightness of the gauges and I'm only able to arrow down to 95% then it jumps back to 100% if you try and arrow down further.

It sounds like these pads fail eventually and I'm wondering if this glitchyness might be an early warning?

My 09 22Ve has frozen a couple times, and on occasion cruise won't catch speed and I need to cycle cruise to fix or cycle ignition.

But what is the brightness adjustment? I don't think I have any adjustment and run at night on occasion. I did find the gauge back light wire and pulled it, so now only the center screen is lit up... which I cover with a towel.
