Need Help with 1999 2100V Limited

Hello! So Im new to the site. Just bought my 1999 2100v. It came with two fat sacks and tower and the guy I bought it from bought it right from the factory in 1999. I have all the paperwork I think but still need some help. He had the Metcraft tower and Bimini but one of the poles is missing on the top.

Bought it in March 2016...I took it out, ran horrible, took it to a reputable mechanic and had him fix an assortment of things one being the Steering Cable. It turns to the right easy but I have to two hand to the left. Its night and day difference from before when they replaced it but I want to fix the problem. Also had a new waterpump, fuel pump, fuel rail cleaned and injectors, distributor sensor(?), cables and cap, oil and plugs, and a few other things.

Also, Any ideas on a good prop upgrade? I have the 350mag EFI, with a reduction trans.? He went to walter and had them change it out in the winter of 1999-2000. I think its now a 1 to 1.12. No clue where to start but all I know is the idiot had a 16"/18" prop on there and the mechanic was laughing at why. Only thing I found is that I should switch to a 14"-15".

    Thanks for the help!

Chpthril can set you up with the right prop. Need a bit more info though. What is your elevation? What are your intended uses? Check for sure on which drive you have. If you post a pic of it, we can tell you.
You'll get your chance, smart guy.

You got a great boat there, built like a tank. If it is original, it came with a ski prop, mine did. A lot has been learned since 99 and they are outfitted a little differently now. Keep all bolts TIGHT on that Metcraft tower, those have come a long way as well, switched mine to a Samson. You can throw great wakeboarding and surf wakes with a minimum of effort.
Mine steers the same way, I think it is the old helm unit...they no longer make them any more. Time for an upgrade for me, just hard to replace something that is not broken as my kids are grown and the boat does not get a lot of use.
Chpthril is a wealth of info on props, fat sacs and general info. He can get you set up on ballast and tunes. Otherwise you will find a lot of information on this site.
      Have fun.

Thanks so much. I changed the prop out to a 14.25/15.75 and I will actually go one more size smaller. I was actually way wrong. The transmission was not what I said above but instead a 1.46 to 1 ratio. After changing much better,

And thanks! Im having a blast with her. Biggest problem is water dripping on the belt. I think this winter I will retrofit a seal/drain to the engine compartment to keep water out...Ill keep everyone po

I had trouble with water on the belt from the back of the center cover. I purchased a plastic gutter from the lumber yard then cut a short peace to run along the back under the cover right above the belt. Water drains to the left or right which does not bother anything but it never drips on the belt anymore. I can take a picture if you need one.

Please post a picture, I was thinking about doing something similar.

A good all round prop would be an Acme 537, it is 13.5 X 16.

Let's see that belt protector. I'm gonna do one tomorrow morning.

I guess one questions now that I've made it through the season is why would someone change the transmission from a 1:1 in the first place? I mean late in the year the water isn't as crowded I would like to ski and I don't feel like I have the power to pull a bigger guy out of the water

I am not clear on your last post. The 1.46/1 ratio is in the blue v-drive unit. That ratio gives a mechanical advantage over the black 1/1 v-drive unit. To my knowlege the transmission for both of these is 1/1. To clarify what you have, do you have the blue or black unit?
Also I didn't see where you were located elevation wise. I haven't run the prop you mentioned (14.25/15/75) but I do have the Acme 537 13.5/16 with my blue 1.46/1 v-drive and it performs pretty well and has no problem pulling slalom skiers. We have been really happy with this boat. Hopefully we can get you where you are as well.

OLdeboy- thanks for the reply...that was more info on that specific drive than anyone else has been able to give me haha. I will look at using that prop. I will clarify what drive I have but Immoretty sure it's Black. I'll double check next time I go do work on her(already in storage).

The prop I got was from a place called OJ propellers. Great mom and pop shop and super nice friendly people.

As for a side note I have a decent amount of calcium build up which I was told can greatly effect the speed and performance. I'm not talking just a little...I have some big streaks and deposits on the hull which my mechanic said might be a problem for the power on top end speeds. Won't know until next year though.

The answer to your question lies within your statement. A gear reduction v-drive actually increases the prop torque. Allows the motor to turn a bigger, more aggressive prop. These are the props that allow you to do just that, pull bigger guys.

Now, about a month after your 1st post, you made a prop choice without answering the vital questions pointed up by Nick.

If your boat does indeed have the black 1:1 v-drive (yes, v-drive, not the transmission) and the 14.25D x 15.75P prop you got is a 4 blade, sadly, you got the wrong prop. This will explain why you are struggling with big skiers. The black 1:1 will struggle to turn that 4 blade.

So, to reiterate Nick's post, answer the important questions and we can help you determine if you have the right prop for the boat and what prop will better serve you for skiing.

Walter makes v-drives and Borg-Warner makes the transmission. So if the previous owner dealt with Walter, is was regarding the v-drive, not the transmission. If walter did provide a 1.12:1 gear set to replace the 1:1, I dont seeing that being worth the effort. However, its a simple swap to go from the black 1:1 to the blue 1.46:1. I do not know if there is a 1.46 gear set for the black drive though, that would be a question for Walter. You would have to watch the input shaft and output shaft for 1 revolution and see.

Are you sure about those numbers? I dont find this combo in any of OJ's three 4 blade series or even their 3-blade props. Even a 14.00" D is too much with a 15.75" P. Id want to be down about 14.5" pitch at least. This presumes you've got the 1.46:1 and a 4 blade.

Again, the right prop hinges on that gear ratio. Without that, you are throwing darts.

Well...BIG NEWS in my life. I got a transfer/new job in FLORIDA! I put her online hoping to sell before I move and upgrade to a salt water version. ALL gear included! If anyone you know wants to buy Im more than willing to negotiate.

Also, Found the problem that was causing the low power and not enough speed. Two of my Injectors weren't working. Fixed and back to normal.
