    Tige 24v steering issue

    So I have a 2004 Tige 24v Limited and it runs great, however the steering was a little rough turning to the left. So I went ahead and replaced the steering cable and still same issue. The boat steers great to the right, but its super difficult to turn to the left and doesnt have as big of a turn radius to the left either.

    What am I missing??

    It has to due with the rotation of the prop and the water passing over the rudder. All Inboard due this.

        out of the water it feels super easy to turn both ways. However when I get all the way to the left it sounds like the steering arm is hitting the fiberglass. It turns alright when its up to speed on the water, but around half speed the right turn is easy but left is super difficult.

          Full left or right there is and aluminum bump stop for the steering that is what you are hearing, otherwise the rudder would just spin in circles. Trust me when I say nothing is wrong with your steering. Only thing you might want to do that may help a little is to grease the rudder shaft through the zerk fitting on the side or top of it where ever yours is on your model.

          The reason it turns nice and easy at idle like in no wake zones, is there is little to no resistance on the rudder other than the water being pushed passed it at a slow rate. Higher speeds 20+ the boat is plained out and cruising therefore the resistance from the prop wash is reduced at bow down attitude. Acceleration, or bow high attitude will put a higher stress on the rudder surface and creates felt resistance on the steering wheel but only in the direction of the prop rotation. Which is why it turns left on an dime and right takes a little longer. It's called the propeller effect (aviation term) but the science of it doesn't change.

              The other thing I notice when I replaced my cable is that if you turn completely to the far right or left all the way to the stops the boat will not start to turn very well till you let off a little to let the prop wash clear around the rudder and initiate the turn before you go to the full stop position. Inboards do not steer anyway close to that of stern drive and outboards. Spend some more time behind the helm and you will figure it out.
