R20 and FAE

Hi all,

Does anyone here have a pre-2015 R20 (dual exhaust) with an FAE?

I'm trying to decide between the standard 3-piece and the 1 piece ("T") FAE:

I prefer the clean looks of the 1 piece but I'm wondering if I might need the adjustability of the 3 piece. The 1 piece will be a bit adjustable up and down but not at all left or right. On the R20, is there a need to adjust the downspout left or right to counter steering issues? Is depth or angle an issue? It looks like it will tilt back just a little.

Also, I wonder if the cross bar is really necessary to mount the FAE, or whether the mounts could be wood-screwed directly into a rib on the underside of the platform (as with a teak platform - see image above). Has anyone done this?

I would put the cross bar on simply because a friend of mine didn't and has paid twice for FAE, the other one is at the bottom of the lake somewere.
