Think I found found a deal!

Hey, this is my first post here. I have been looking for a boat to replace my 35 year old Mastercraft stars and stripes. With 3 kids and the wife we have really outgrown it. I am still looking for something that is decent to slalom behind, that will still allow us to surf and wake board behind. I have come across an 08 20V with low hours for a good price. It has no factory ballast, but does have taps and perfect pass. What do you guys think about this setup? Is it something we could learn to surf behind and maybe add a little ballast as we get better? It is a beautiful boat and seems huge compared to our old MC. Anxious to hear everyone's thoughts. Thanks John

I owned an 07 20V and stock without ballast I could surf ( It really did not interest me) but I felt that the wake needed a lot more push and height to be effective. It was great for recreational slalom runs but not for competition. With some ballast the 20V can be made into a fairly decent surf and wakeboard boat. Chpthril one of the forum members is a great resource for what is needed to get that boat fitted out to surf well

The 20V is a nice 20 footer but for a family of 5 that probably will bring kids friends with it can get crowded. When I had mine it was my wife daughter and 3 dogs so we had plenty of space and it exceeded our performance expectations but it still is a 20' boat. The bow area is good for young kids but adults will be cramped up there. The cockpit area is fairly spacious and easily seats 6+. Is a fun boat.

Good Luck and I hope you get a good price.

Yeah, it is not as huge boat as boats go nowadays but it is a huge step up from what I had. I have looked at several but to find anything under 30k I find myself back looking at 03 models with 500+ hours. Although this one is smaller it is near brand new condition and under 30k. After looking at so many I feel like I can sacrifice some space for the much newer and less used boat. The wife and I just slalom for fun and I think this will be fine for that. I just want the ability mainly to surf to be there as I can myself and the kids growing interest in that. Thanks for the feedback.

From what you describe as your uses the 20V will fit and ballast can make it surfable. A clean 08 for under 30K is a good deal. I have been looking for a few years at the market on these and used ones sell for what you could buy new ones for in 2007. So if the boat is clean, well maintained and the vinyl has no seam tears etc from what you have said it looks like a good deal. Check the engine and tranny fluid to make sure no water in them.

Definitely a good deal. I've got a 20v and love it. I like that it makes everyone happy. I've got boarders, surfers and skiers in the family and everyone has a great time. You can get a lot out of a twenty foot boat with the 20v. Do it! Piece of advice. If you have more than six on the boat I would definitely say set up on the beach and take turns with who goes on the boat. Could get a bit crowded when you're tossing around wakeboards and such.
