muffler baffle? or internal damage?

He started with an '84 in stock classes, then went to a '96 that got the full race car treatment; stopped out, 10pt cage, race build engine, etc.

I'm going to risk it and cut it out, I like symmetry I guess. Sometime down the road I'm sure I'll get the MEFI scan and tune. That's for another day though.

Just to close the loop on this one (pun intended), I'll actually chock it up to preventive maintenance. When I knocked it out, it only took a light tap and the top and the whole thing popped off; it would have happened on its own soon anyway.

Had it out on the water at elevation, and was able to hit 40mph; I don't think I've lost too much performance, I think I'll just need a better prop to put the power back on the low end.
