    New guy 2001 fox edition

Hi all new to the site and wow you guys have some nice boats. I recently purchased a 2001 fox edition 2100 v from a neighbour boat seems nice and clean it's been in storage for a couple years with 300 hours. I've had a centurion d drive for last three years it was a good boat but wanted to try a v drive so here I go. So I no nothing about these boats so a little lost . I'm not sure how perfect pass works I've always pulled the throttle and hoped for the best. I have three questions anyone no how to tell why my thermostat reads at top on the gauge all the time. And why my taps switch only goes up not down on switch and would that make my taps gauge not move? Any help from the gurus out there be great so far this boat seems pretty good I'm sure my family will love it . Thanks for any help ,after seeing the job some of you guys did on the swim grids I'm gonna start with that

First thing is make sure you HAVE a problem with that temp. gauge and that the engine isn't running that hot. So you really need to clarify the issue. Is the engine running at normal temp(usually @160 degrees) and the gauge is reading high for some reason. Or is the engine really running that hot and the gauge is reading correct? If it is really running that hot and has been ran for any time like that your going to have problems. If the boat has been sitting I would replace the impeller before I used the boat again. If the old one is not whole(missing parts) you need to find the pieces upstream, usually at the trans cooler. If the engine is indeed running at 160 like it should(verified with outside gauge/ source) then It could be the gauge, sender, or bad wiring. My first guess would be a bad ground.

The throttle mounted TAPS switches are common to stop working. For this reason most dealers stock them, but with that said the entire systems develop problems on these older boats. Rams, pumps, wiring and switches I have all seen having worked for a Tige dealer. I would say the pump is the most common problem when the system is completely dead. But where you have one function I'd start with the switch and work from there. The sender is integrated in the system so your root issue is likely why the gauge doesn't work. Once you trouble shot and get the TAPS system working properly you have a 95% chance that will also take care of the gauge.

The reason I thought it was the gauge is because it's always at hot on or off so I'll check actual temp with the engine running then see ,it's just that gauge never moves. Does anyone no how many drain plugs are non this boat i only see one at back of boat my d drive had one in middle of hull. I'm gonna try and order the switch first like you guys are saying do you think there's a part number on it ? I live in Vancouver Canada and there dosnt seem to be a tige dealer near by.

Boat looks clean - very nice!

My boat only has 1 drain at the back as well.

The TAPS gage on my '01 21V didn't work when I bought my boat from a friend either back in 2009. The switch on the throttle worked and the plate moved up and down but the gage didn't register at all. I replaced one of the Benett hydraulic rams that had the coil sender unit inside it and that fixed the gage problem for me. If the plate is indeed moving at all and the gage isn't working that's most like that problem. Assuming the switch is making the plate move of course. Hope this makes sense. And yes you should definitely plan on replacing the impeller. I also had to replace my steering cable which can be kinda a pain in the a@$, but can be done with some assistance from a friend. Didn't realize how tight my steering was until I put the new one on there and it was like I had power steering! Enjoy the boat. We love ours.
