    Speedo oscillations - '13 Z1

My boat has produced a great surf wave all year but started to suck yesterday. I noted that the speed was fluctuating and "shooting" a lot. This made it hard to surf.

Today I tested the speedo calibration and it was almost impossible to verify. The readings are dancing about 3MPH at every speed. As a result, when using speed set it can't keep a speed. I get a better wave free-handing it.

Any ideas why this might happen? I assume the paddle wheel might be to blame. My next trip is underwater to investigate.

    Thanks in advance.

Yep, checking the wheel for all 4 paddles first

All four paddles are present and spin with ease. What's next?

you might have a faulty gauge, they are analog on the frnt, but all digital in behind, they are driven by a servo stepper motor, my guess this has packed it in, ask your dealer, i am guessing its hyperactive??

Both the analog gauge and digital readouts fluctuate in the same manner. Assume it must be an internal component as well.

I'll have to get it fixed at Hyperactive. However that doesn't help my vacation much. I'll be throttling by hand I guess.

they probably both will , as they use the CAN bus feed , see if they will send you a new gauge and you can re/re it yourself, is just a small bracket and a few screws and a plug in connector

Worked today for a bit then quit again. Sigh.

or then again it could be the paddle wheel itself, sadness

Check out this paddle wheel replacement thread.

Mentioned in that thread is the Nautic Laugic GPS conversion kit. I added one to our 2009 RZ2 and I love it. I had always had surge issues and erratic speed readings, especially when surfing. The GPS conversion solved that for me. And the installation is easy (and does not require removal of the paddle wheel).

I notice the NL4 kit only shows compatibility through 2012 Tige. I have spoken to the Nautic Laugic guys and found them very knowledgeable and helpful -- perhaps give them a ring.
