    New Owner 2002 Tige

New to this site and owner for 10 months of a 2002 23OOV Tige. Just wanted to share a few issues I had so others wouldn't run into the same.

    FIRSTLY,
When I purchased the boat last year, my hope was to take the boys out for a few runs before putting it away for the winter, but to my surprise when putting it in the water, it ran for about 20 minutes then died. Couldn't restart it. Took it to 2 marine shops where the computer didn't read any real error coeds nor could help trouble shoot the issues. Previous owner had the ECM replaced fall of 2012, and claimed he never ran it in the lake after that.

After troubleshooting blind with replacing all EFI sensors (TPS, Crankshaft, etc.) then replacing distributor, alternator, fuel pump the boat was still acting up. Mercruiser had re-flashed the ECM at the start of troubleshooting and rechecked the reman ECM, but claimed everything was fine.

After hours and hours spent at a VERY reputable shop, with a great service tech., they found putting a bag of ice on the computer fixed the problem. Weird, but real. I guess the computer was not responding upon heat soak, and whats worse, was that Mercruiser could diagnose the problem....nor did they want to help make it right.

There are a lot of other things that happened in between in which I will not get into, but please if you have a problem like this, get a bag of ice before you start replacing stuff, and don't count on the manufacturer to back anything up for you.

    SECONDLY,

After getting the boat running, buying a new ECM from a person in California, when I got out in the water, the boat was a DOG! It felt like I was driving a 4cylinder boat. When I called tige, the customer support person did mention to me that the prop chosen for that boat shouldn't have been the one for that boat. The 4 blade cutter 13x13 did not do justice on the walter drive with 1:1 ratio. He did recommend going with a 3 blade 13x11.5 amce 525 prop. Short story long, after reconfirming with wakemakers.com, I replaced the prop, and the boat runs like a champ minus a few issues with perfect pass, and heater. That prop comes highly recommended.

I do like the layout of the boat......very spacious and does well. I guess mercruiser is no longer supplying powertrain for tige.

I hope this could help someone in the future. It is a great layout, but be prepared to spend a little if you have the boat.
Working...
