    New 22V towing question

It looks like I am about to buy a 2005 22V this weekend and was wondering what kinds of vehicles people are towing with and if they had any issues with towing. I have a Range Rover and a Silverado, both very capable, but was just looking for any insight. My little Sea Ray is less than half the weight this Tige is.

I have an 05 22V. We tow it with a Silverado 1500 no problems. I do wish it was gear a little differently though. At highway speed it wants to kick down because it is so low in 4th.

I pull my '99 21v with a 2004 F-150 4x4 with no problems. I had a Dodge Dakota 4x4 before that and it worked fine, too.

          Fellas,
Let me let you boys who ride with the General in on a little secret. I have towed my 23v with a tahoe and avalanche several times every year with no major issues except the down shifting. I learned how to solve this for FREE. All you have to do is find a nice straight stretch of road where you can turn the truck off, start truck, pedal to the metal until you reach 60mph, slow down and turn truck off. Start truck and repeat this procces two more times and you will reprogram your computer from the granny mode the factory gave it to you in. Slowly the computer will relearn your driving style, but its better to come down from this than to come up from the granny mode. Believe me I was skeptical aswell but it was free and I had nothing to lose so I tried it and have since done it to every other GM car and truck my family owns. You can do this as many times as you like and will be amazed the next time you pull away from a stop light or haul your Tige to the lake.

          Enjoy,
          B

Cool! Does it work for other manufacturer's cars as well?

Make sure you have an aux. transmission cooler.

One last question, do you do the above procedure with or without the boat attached?

Without the boat will work fine.

Or you could get a truck built for actually hauling stuff. 1500 are more or less built to get themselves around, not another vehicle as well. You can tow all day long with them and never have a problem if you are carefull. A 2500 with a tow package will work much better. Stronger suspention, bigger brakes, tranny cooler, shorter gears in the rear end, tow mode. My advise, sell the 1500 and the Rover and get yourself a 2500HD Duramax crew cab. I've towed boats with all sorts of vehicles from 4cyl. Toyotas to 1/2ton pickups to van convertions to motor homes to 1 ton deisels. The difference between a 1/2ton (1500) gas and a 3/4ton (2500) deisel is HUGE. I tow with a 2500HD Duramax CC and I will never go back to gas 1/2ton. Ever. The 3/4ton gas trucks do pretty well. The suspention and drivetrain are at least a little built up. However, a 3/4ton HD deisel will spoil you to no end. It ain't even the same game let alone league.

Note- Most of the 1/2ton guys here have stated their needs and those needs have been found to be acceptable for 1/2ton use by the Overly Opinionated Society of America.

I'm thinking about getting a hitch on my CASE Construction King. Talk about torque...rides a little rough, tho

What Nickypoo said about sums it up. I bought an 06 2500 Dodge Quad Cab Cummins Diesel and I will never go back to gas ever. It pulls our 22v like a dream. I traded in my 05 Toyota Tundra and have no regrets.

Of course the 2500HD diesel is about 10grand more and how often do you pull your boat? My wife drives the Tahoe everyday, it has the tranny cooler, short gears, Tow mode and the heavier rear springs- it's also a Z71 4x4 so maybe that makes a difference
