The two rubber hoses that come off the manifold has a small hole and the steel wire are starting to show at the end of the hose. My boat is running good. What causes the hoses to fail, old age? Is this an easy job to replace both hoses. 1997 Tige 2200v with scorpion motor.

Yup, old age. Rubber doesn't last for ever. I think most tire mfgs now say replace them at 5 years or something like that even if the tread is fine. Check your hose that brings water up to the engine (after seacock). If never replaced it may be close to failing. If you keep the boat in the water unattended, failure of that one could sink the boat. -
Old age and heat. Not too bad to get out but still can be a choir. Screwdriver and some wd40 will help to loosen them up.Comment

Keep an eye on it, no worries. Unless you are in salt water, I wouldn't want that spraying/dripping around stuff.Comment

I would just make sure that they don't have any really soft spots in them. Kind of like a blister, but just keep an eye on them like ericnmich was saying and also your engine temp gauge.Comment

I'd replace 'em ASAP. As mentioned previously, if one of those exhaust hoses goes, you won't just have exhaust coming into your boat...water too!Comment
